Philadelphia Guitar Show

Post by britinvasion »

The big Greater Philadelphia Guitar Show rolled into town this weekend. We have been getting beautiful weather so I took a drive over.
If you've been to one of these you already know the state of sensory overload that occurs when you are swimming in an ocean of vintage, used and new guitars. I felt like an alcoholic in a gin factory. The high point for me was spending time with Chris Clayton of Pick of the Ricks. He had a lot of amazing guitars there. I finally picked up a couple of sets of TI's for my 12's, can't wait to try them.
I just have to say Chris is just a really fine person and is incredibly knowledgeable about all things Rick! Can't say enough good things 'bout the man & his business. Were any other forum members there?

I'm glad you had a good time. I'm kicking myself for missing the show...I planned to go but work got in the way on Sunday. Yeah, Chris is a heck of a guy and runs a great business at POTR!

I went...I saw...I crumbled. When I stopped by to get some parts and strings from Chris, we chatted it up a bit, then I turned around and something caught my eye.   :o

I'm so weak. She followed me home....

Chris had 2 Dakotas perched on the table to the left. That was Saturday morning...there was one there in the afternoon.

Since these are some of the last off the production line and the price could not be beat, it was a no-brainer. This one has something I've rarely seen in Walnut - flame! Plus the neck has some really cool figuring that photos so far have not properly captured...but it's there...really!

Set-up is perfecto, plugged it in last night and had a blast messing up open chords and sloppy bends

Other dealers had some interesting stuff - one guy had a 75 4001FG for $1675 that looked decent; sign said it had new rods installed. Fit and finish looked good, played nice (unplugged). Would have considered dealing on that if it were not for the 650D.

I was there late in the day, picked up an old Martin for a friend that was in for repair and hung out at the POTR booth for a while.

Those brunettes can make you weak in the knees. I know, I saw Suzanna Hoffs this weekend. She didn't follow me home.
