While I agree with you, I'm almost positive no other company has the severe restrictions put on it that Microsoft has.

It's one thing to be filthy rich and another to maintain that status.

The sheer amount of man-hours it takes to make sure Windows works as well as it has is beyond belief.

No other software maker out there gives users the lifespan of its products like Microsoft.

Every other software company expects and in most cases demands you to upgrade to their latest version.

I never thought I'd be the one defending them, either. :(

Scott, the fact Microsoft has the lion's share of the computers and also has to support multiple versions is the curse of having that share. Business demands the continued support as they can't afford to upgrade every time MS decides it's time for a new version.

Then we can start talking WinME and Vista...

I work with a guy that's still on 3.11.....

I agree. Actually, when IE gives me trouble, I fire up Chrome. I hear that they're coming out with a CHROME OS soon to rival MS's Windows....can't wait for that!
Because I told you before- oh, you can't do that.

John, I agree that business locks in Microsoft.

In fact, one of the reasons Vista has tanked so badly is a lot of the major corporations had just gone through a new refresh when Vista came out and they weren't planning to upgrade. Bad timing, bad publicity, bad all around.

I knew a guy when I was at IBM that had a great background.

As far as UNIX goes, I still have some IRIX boxes sitting here in my office.

I doubt Chrome OS will get big for another 3-5 years. It'll take them that long to whittle away at businesses and pull them from Microsoft.

It'll be more like MacOS and may end up pulling from their marketshare or at least from their demographic before it starts pulling businesses over.

Just my opinion.

It's paint...$150.00 for 16 ounces. $1200.00 a gallon.

Hmmm, it didn't look quite reflective enough to be chrome. Looked more like polished aluminum. But it's paint? Cool, how do they do that with a paint (get it almost mirror like)?

It's not CGI. It's pimp, and I don't do that SEMA stuff.

Wouldn't that tend to scratch more like patch does rather than be a bit harder like real chrome?

It's paint. Its coating of clear polyurethane is similar to RIC conversion varnish, so it has some abrasion resistance. But it's nothing like chrome in durability. And, yeah, it looks like nicely-polished aluminum, rather than hard chrome.

And preparing the substrate for it is very labor-intensive, too.

Would you ever use such a finish on a RIC instrument???
Because I told you before- oh, you can't do that.
