.0047 Capacitor

Post by nextcliffburton »

Hey Guys,

I recently did the mod on my 4001 and after It was done it sounded AWESOME! One thing tho, I hear this low hum now, it's not super bad, but enough where its gonna bug me (Where there was no hum before) and When I turn my amp up loud for shows it will be noticable. We didnt have much to work with while doing the MOD, we pulled a wire out of my friends ol 79 lousy OFF-Brand Guitar (Dont worry folks, it was an off brand :]) and soldered it on. I'm wondering maybe I should get a brand new strong wire or maybe check th4e solder job again. What do you guys suggest?

You can try copper foil to shield the pots that may help, of course check the work. Always used new wire just as a FYI old wire may have corrosion under the insulation that cannot be seen. Good Luck :D

Maybe check the solder job again. I don't have any mysterious hums on any of my de-capped 4001's, so something must have gone wrong.

Glad you like the new tone.

Will Do! I'll buy some wire today. What gauge of shielded wire would you reccomend?

Jake, also make sure the ground on the bridge pickup is on properly and the wire from the pickup is well soldered to a pot body (ground). I'm wondering if you always had a dodgy ground on that pickup but with the cap bypassed allowing the low frequencies to pass you now hear the hum.
