What a loss! This news makes me very sad.

Wow, another great icon! Too bad he didn't make it a few more days until the 40th anniversary of the moon landing. I'll never forget hearing him reporting it...
RIP Mr. Cronkite...

The most trusted man in America ... we counted on him for more than the news - he was also there to tell us everything would be all right.

I would only add that he was the most trusted man of our generation...........trusted by people all over the world, because he told the truth.kiramdear wrote:The most trusted man in America ... we counted on him for more than the news - he was also there to tell us everything would be all right.

Cronkite was a staple in our household when I was growing up - like a member of the family.
RIP Uncle Walter...

He was drenched in sweat, in tears, and nearly speechless. When the LEM hit the lunar soil, all that Walter could say was, "Man on a Moon". We all felt exactly the same ...cjj wrote:Wow, another great icon! Too bad he didn't make it a few more days until the 40th anniversary of the moon landing. Re: One of the Best RIP Walter Cronkite
That he did. He trusted the American people enough to tell them the truth and let them decide for themselves how they would think about it. Not like the posers we have today...... Thanks, DR....winston wrote:I would only add that he was the most trusted man of our generation...........trusted by people all over the world, because he told the truth.kiramdear wrote:The most trusted man in America ... we counted on him for more than the news - he was also there to tell us everything would be all right.
W.C., D.B., C.H.; these types are long gone.

Lyndon Johnson, after hearing Walter condemn the war in Vietnam: "If I have lost Walter Cronkite, I have lost the American people."

He had a long, full life, and left his mark upon the world.
