Awesome bass. I'd leave the Stars bridge on there. I was trying to track one down until Hipshot came out with theirs. I'm pretty certain Ged's had a Badass on it since every other Ric he owned had one.

Re: Bastille Day
Wouldn't you know it? The bridge is cut off in this pic.

Re: Bastille Day
NICE!! And a white skull and cross bones on the front would be WAY cool!jakeox wrote:But I have this spray paint can of flat black right over here!loendmaestro wrote:Oh, don't you dare refinish that bass!
Re: Bastille Day
Well, it doesn't take much to improve over many of those original bridges. You would have thought this bass would be superior in intonation and sustain over the stock unit. The brass nut adds to that train of thought, and I'd also say those frets do look larger than the factory wire as well.rickaddict wrote:Them is fightin' words, Wints!wints wrote:
Even with the mods, a cool bass, which, practically speaking, could well be superior to the stock 4002.
Re: Bastille Day
i also think you might want to leave that cool bridge on there!those mods were similar to some of what had been done to mine. i always presumed the bridge on my 4002 was a starz, but never took it off to find out.( because it worked incredibly well) . the bridge i had was not like this one,it was essentially just an oversize one peice fender type flat bridge shaped like the original bridge footprint. (with a LOT of saddle adjustment length) . i replaced the plastic nut with a bone one,did a refret with larger guage wire, and had coil taps on the seymour duncan pickups. the body throo stringing should also be a good thing soundwise....

Congrats Jake what a great find and a cool story.

Nice bass.
Somewhere theres a picture of Ged sitting on a couch either in his home or studio with the 4002 hanging on the wall behind him. I may have seen it on this very forum. Anyone else remember this???

Yes! That's the one I looked at -- at first I thought the picture hadn't loaded fully, and then I realized that was it. So close!gearhed289 wrote:Wouldn't you know it? The bridge is cut off in this pic.![]()

But then there's this (which Scott just referenced):
Hard to tell, and I haven't found a larger version of this, but that looks like a badass bridge on his 4002 to me (hanging on the wall on the left side of the picture).
Re: Bastille Day
Looks like a Badass to me too. This would, of course, be consistent with his choice of bridges for Ricks...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
Re: Bastille Day
Looks Badass to me too - on a plastic carrier to cover the routing.

Re: Bastille Day
Finally had a chance to polish it up a bit and take some pictures. There are a whole mess of hi-res pics here on photobucket, but here are some highlights:
Re: Bastille Day
Here are a few more, including a closeup of the frets. The frets sure look mighty chunky to me, and the fretboard looks to have a little bit of minor trauma around a few of the frets. There's so little wear on this that I can't imagine why it would have been refretted except as a personal preference for enormo-frets.
Re: Bastille Day
Nice wood on that, Jake. I even think the bridge is a nice design, overall, easy to adjust like that on my 4005WB.

No. Geddy has a BAII on his just like on his second 4001.
