325c64 or 325(lennonized)

Post by kieran campbell »

Ok so,
As many of you know I have made several 'New Topics' on 325's and have been wanting one ever since Ive been on this fourm. But every time I decide on either the 325C64 I seem to see a cool pic of john with his origanal jetglo and I can never make up my mind.
If any of you have any words of wisdome or prefrences on either the 325c64 or a 325 lennon original jetglow please let me know. because there just so cool in there own ways.

thanks

I would suggest going for the C58 first because it has been discontinued but is still available now. Then you can save and get the C64 when you are ready. :D

I vote 325c64 - no mods required to look like Lennon's. Then, if you like it, you can get a 325c58 and mod it.

+1, I always thought the C64 looked cooler than V81 anyway.

Or you could always fo with a 325V59. It's got the Bigsby already on it.

I have two of the following models, but I'm not interested in having a Lennon ringer so I haven't looked into it very deeply.

There are lots of minor differences, but in a nutshell, and with minor corrections to be made to these analyses:

c58: fat bodied alder, like v81 except for the vibrato, has oven knobs
v59: like v81 except it's made of maple, has oven knobs
c64 JG: slim maple body, potential ringer for his second Rick, "Miami"
any 320 JG: potential ringer for "Miami", with considerable modding

That's just how I think of them in very broad terms.

Those are all the short "Lennon" models I know of, but is there another candidate?

There is the V63, which is almost identical in appearance to the C64 but there are many internal differences which have been discussed in another thread.

I agree with Kris -- if you are looking for a standard RIC issue, not modded, that resembles the "Sullivan Lennon," the 325V59 in JG (it also comes in MG) is the closest you'll get. The C58 (also discontinued as is the C64) is likely more faithful to the contruction of V81, but comes with Kauffman vs. Bigsby, and that's a big mod to switch from one to the other -- you have to drill holes for the Bigby and fill holes (in body end) for the K removal.

The C58 was discontinued at the end of NAMM this year. I don't believe the C64 has been discontinued.

My bad. I have seen "C64 discontinued" so many times that I fell prey to bad osmosis.

I just checked the RIC website. A news release issued on Jan. 15 of this year announced that the discontinued models are:

325C58
4001C64
4001C64S

The 325C64 still lives!

I would say c58, I prefer the deeper body on a short scale guitar. And gold on black is always nice.
Great Ramp In My Opinion.
