Paul, here are some shots of the early 4004cii's with the quilted top I got from a magazine and from the web.

Great shots, Warren. That "leftie" with the maple fretboard is actually a flopped photo of what I call a "prototype" of the Cii that resides at he RIC office museum.

I'd be interested in obtaining high-res photos of one of these basses, but would need to arrange them with the original photographer for publication OK. Ideally, I'd like to photograph one myself (even better, own one!), so if you know of anyone with one, please let me know.

Will do Paul. I did hear a rumour a few years back that some one did own one here in the UK, so I'll do some digging and see what I can find out.

Would love one with a maple fretboard to add to my 4004C and 4004L but as there is only one, the prototype at the Rickenbacker museum, that will never happen!

that last picture clearly shows 2 things. 1.the bridge pickup should be further back, where the plucking hand falls. 2.don't wear yellow when playing a mapleglo bass!  8)

Nice photos, Jeff. Did you ever think of going into the business?
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm
