Broken "R" tailpiece on a 381/12

Post by marc67 »

Yesterday, I was rehearsing with my band when the tailpiece of our 381/12 (that was sitting on it's stand) broke off with no warning - a big "twwwinnnggg" of 12 strings snapping...
I was thinking of replacing it with a trapeze one...can be done with no serious mods - if any at all?

the Trapeze will fit, but the mounting holes for the bracket on the Trapeze are different from that of the R tailpiece. I suggest buying the bracket from Winfield vintage, which makes a Trapeze bracket whose mounting holes are the same as those on the "R" tailpiece mounting bracket. Here's the link: http://winfieldvintage.com/parts/end-hooks.html :D

Oh, btw, if you're not going to send your "R" tp back to RIC for replacement, you might want to sell it to one of the forum members here who posted a request for a broken "R" tp to fashion a belt buckle from.

If you break an R tailpiece while it's holding up yer pants, that should tell you something!

It means you were mistaken when you suspected your guitar straps were shrinking ...
