Best roundwounds to use on a P-Bass

Post by marc61 »

Any advice?

I used to always go with rotosounds but, any suggestions appreciated.

Other option is to go with a set of chrome flats I have sitting around but, I don't think they'll be bright enough

I like the nickel D'Addario EXL 165s myself....

I was a Roto guy for years, but as I get older I think I want my tone to be a little mellower.... :?

i prefer dr strings. the nickle ones. sunbeams are more flexible (roundcore),and low riders/hi beams (hex core) are more traditional feeling. they ALL are great strings,a roundwound sound with a smoother feel (because of the compressed wrap). nothin' wrong with rotosounds, altho i again prefer the nickle swing bass to the stainless steel ones.....

Some refer to rotosounds as "freteaters" but I always liked them. Picked up a set of 40-95 swing bass. Should work.

I use D'Addario chrome flats on mine and they sound great, but you can't argue with Entwistle's sound in Live at Leeds either which is a P bass with Rotos. I used to use them but didn't like the lack of bottom, nor the fret eating.

I've been a diehard D'addario fan for many years, and still think they have great set of strings in their XL-170 nickle set, but lately I've switched all of my basses over to DR Highbeams .40 .60 .80 .100 . Really liking the tone and feel of the DR's.
