I'm a fan... I even like the Ruttles - the pre-fab four... I think that's part of the humor - being sooo close to the genera.

Christopher Guest ,Michael McKean and Harry Shearer movies.....
This is Spinal Tap
Best In Show
A Mighty Wind

... are there others?

All hysterical movies. I agree with Dane.... sure they should give it up, but thats been the whole joke from the beginning.
They're a train wreck but you just cant look away.

And what genius thought up the double necked bass?

I had the pleasure of working with these guys for one day during an MTV Spring Break concert at Daytona Beach, I believe in 1992. They were just having fun and seemed like a great bunch of guys. I met Christopher Guest in character as Nigel in a T-shirt shop behind the stage before the set.

That entire week, I took a "vacation" from my regular gig as a sound engineer in Orlando to work as a stage hand for the MTV show... loads of fun, not much money! Other guests that week were Mr. Big, LA Guns, Primus, Marky Mark (incredible rhythm section!), Right Said Fred (I know!) Pauly Shore and a lot more. Too long ago now to remember all the acts, but I remember that Spinal Tap was great comic relief during all the rest of the turmoil & stress of that week. I think we were doing six or seven acts a day for six days straight. I got out out of that biz in 1997, just got tired of working everyone else's party.

Rob Reiner seems to nail the essence of every film he makes. This is Spinal Tap was no exception. He created more clichés in one movie than all of the 1960's!

Wait a minute..... do you mean to tell me that the double necked bass... with TWO 4-string basses.... was NOT just a gag for the movie?
