More LK Shenanigans

Post by incubus2432 »

Because I can't leave anything alone I finally went ahead and swapped the heavily worn gold hardware for black. I've been debating this swap for some time.....the beat up gold just makes the LK look "cheesy" (IMO) and I thought the black would give it a bare bones business look. I'm not exactly sold.....maybe it's the binding that throws it off (black hardware looked great on my ex-Ci). Maybe I just have to give it a few to sink in. Whatever is decided it will probably stay for a while since it's a PITA to swap it all. Thanks much to Jason and Todd for a p/u ring and tuners.

Brian, I like it. The black hardware picks up the black checks in the binding.

You still need this: EP 0080-003 http://www.guitarpartsresource.com/elec ... itches.htm

Not yet with the switch.

Part of the issue is the tuners I got from Todd had chrome bushings/nuts and washers so I had to use my gold. Since the TRC is gold along with the p/u screws and strap buttons I figured I could cheat and leave micro switch.......but you just had to point it out. A black nut for the switch may be enough to tie it together as well. I'll wait until I decide if it's staying like this before I make more tweaks to the theme.

.....and the correct switch for me would be 0081-003. Just a kill switch.

IMO the white part of the binding (and the white neck binding) throws the overall look off a bit. Probably is better than the worn gold, though! :)

I think the gold looked better than fine. This is an LK we're talking about too.

Absolutely!

Rule number 1~ Do NOT mess with the crack package!

Would one imagine replacing the gold on one's new metallic pearl Lexus LX 570 with black trim? Surely not...

Gold it was, it is, and should always be...

Whether or not you should change it is another thread. But, going on the looks alone, the black looks real sharp, but it just doesn't get there because of the binding. Now, if the outer binding were black as well as the neck binding, the black hardware would be absolute killer...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

I think alot of this collector thing goes way overboard.

Heaven forbid someone for buying a limited edition instrument just to play it. Good for you Brian.

as someone on this forum used to say: "Rock out like Motorhead"!

brian-when i first got my cii,i was intent upon changing the gold hardware (i even spoke to you about buying a complete set of chrome hw you had at the time). i came to really like the gold with the maple, even painting my trc gold. i even think i might like the gold more as it tarnishes, but i am very easy on strings and metal hardware in general,so that could take decades......the black hardware on the lk is interesting, and i love unique combinations, but if i were going to change it from stock,i would probably go chrome......

It works fine for me. The black in the CB unifies it well enough. Not saying I would have made the same choice but it works. 8)

I like the black. Gives it a nice bit of punctuation and, I think, dresses it up. But, I'm not one for gold at all, ever. I prefer chrome to gold in almost all cases for some reason. But, I also don't wear any jewelry (silver or diver's watch don't count do they?) so gold is something I've never liked...not even on a bass or guitar.
Because I told you before- oh, you can't do that.

I think I'm just too used to seeing it with gold. Trying to like it but it just sticks out like a sore thumb.

I think it looks great - reminds me of my '70s Autumnglo with black pickguard/TRC but white binding on the body and neck. One could say that there is mismatching going on, but overall I like the effect.

In general I like black hardware a lot. But in this case just maybe you should shave the binding off and make it an S model.

I prefer the gold, but the black looks cool as well. I've always liked black hardware. Better with black hardware than worn gold.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS! :-)
