Searchers and New Liverpool Wall of Fame

Post by admin »

Apparently the new Liverpool Wall of Fame in Mathew Street has a disc for every Liverpool group that made number one. This being the case, the Searchers have three of the 53 records on the Wall. It was unveiled on Wednesday by Ms. Lita Roza who had the first Liverpool No.1 hit. I understand that The Searchers were represented by Mary McNally as John was away and she was accompanied by Beryl Marsden.

Ed,

Steely Dan? What about Richie Valens? Two hit 45's (one two-sided: "Donna" and "La Bamba") Who's next-the pilot?

If we're going to be going off-topic like this, I'd say that Richie Valens deserves a place in the Hall for being a pioneer of Latin rock. He didn't have many hits because he didn't have much of a chance before he died. Steely Dan? I have to think they got in mostly because they made a huge critically acclaimed "comeback" last year.

The Searchers should be in there, definitely--it often takes the Hall a lot of time to induct worthy musicians and groups. Perhaps when John McNally is eighty years old and all members of The Seachers past and present have given up on being inducted, the Hall will finally put them in. By then, if Mike, Chris, and Tony are still alive, the original four probably won't mind reuniting because they will have forgotten why they were angry at each other in the first place.

I realize I'm being facetious, but sometimes it seems like the Hall really does wait THAT long to induct great talent.

In the meantime, the New Liverpool Wall of Fame is a clear reminder, to at least those in the UK, that the Searchers are deserving of recognition. I am hoping that someone will take a photo of The Wall for all of us to see.

Yes, we Americans are so upset that The Searchers are not in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame that we forgot the original purpose of this thread--to celebrate The Searchers' latest recognition as a hitmaking force in the UK. Thank you, Peter, for sharing this news with us. It would certainly be nice to have a picture of this wall, since we can't all run off to Liverpool to see it in person.

S.J. I have requested a photo of The Wall from some folks in the UK and I hope, with a little luck, to post it here.
