Yer Blues - Live

Post by kenindfw »

Not a bad little group John put together for this. I hadn't seen this video before. Good performance.

That's not post-Beatle; it's 1968. One could argue that by '68 the Beatles as we knew them were gone, and that is true. They were actually gone by Autumn '66, after Revolver and the start of Pepper. What bugs me about this is that John was adamantly against playing "live" with the Beatles and yet did this and other performances. Why not just be genuine about it? Leave the Beatles and play with others. Of course, we wouldn't have had Abbey Road. But, Get Back/Let it Be can rot in a coffin for all I care. Absolute drivel for the most part. Compared to the other material, it's The Archies vs. King Crimson.

Nothing he did in '68-'69 was better than the Beatles, but his mind was just made up. Quotes from Live Peace in Toronto back me up. Not a bad show, but the Beatles would have just kicked it clear. To say that "Everything went down so well" is just insane: http://beatles.ncf.ca/live_peace_in_toronto_p1.html

Now don't get me wrong; if you asked me what my 20 favorite Beatles tracks are, at least 17-18 would be Lennon songs (and for the most part, they'd mostly be from 1966-1967). But, to me, he seriously went off the deep end in late '68-'69. Shame, really. But it is what it is. And all just my opinion, of course.

Fretless,

Why don't you tell us how you really feel about the contribution McCartney, Harrison and Starr made to The Beatles??? ;)
Because I told you before- oh, you can't do that.

Well, if you asked me who my favorite Beatle was, I'd say John. But I think they're all great, and they had attributes that somehow managed to perfectly compliment one another. But I don't know; the whole Get Back/Let it Be and Yoko in the studio and John's attitude around '69 leaves me cold.

I agree that "Let it Be" was not that great, but "Hey Jude" and the "The Long and Winding Road" stand out. I remember hearing it initially when it first came out when I was a kid and never did like "Dig a Pony." I thought it was a throwaway if there ever was one.
