Roger McGuinn with no RIC 12

Post by s_gunderson »

Had the real privilege of seeing McGuinn last night in PA. I have seen him 3 times before. Surprised to see him with only a banjo and his new Martin 6 string with neither his RM RIC 12 or his Martin 12. I am guessing this is a first. The little picture of the RIC RM is gone from his website as well (although it is in his picture). Hope all is OK with him and RIC International

He was interviewed last Tuesday on WCPN and he played and talked about his 7 string Martin D-40 RM (I think that was the designation). It is a 6 string with an additional octave string for the G string. He said that he played his solo lines on that pair primarily as it "voiced" the best for him.

Jeffrey. You are right. He did say 7 strings, but I thought I misunderstood him. One great thing about McGuinn is that he doesn't sit still. I really admire his innovation (just hope he still uses that wonderful RM 370 12 of his for us RIC fans!)

Roger's newest CD, "Limited Edition" is described on it's website as being "Rich in Rickenbacker Jingle Jangle". I've ordered my copy.

I'm going to ge see Roger McGuinn/Marshall Crenshaw on May 20th. I wonder if Roger will play his Rick or the Martins?

I had the opportunity to see Marshall Crenshaw last year at Pontiac's Arts, Beats, & Eats. ( Check out: artsbeatseats.com ) He put on a superb show. Being able to see him along with Roger should be a real treat.

I have seen some talk about this and some speculation that Roger is mad at Rickenbacker or something. That's silly- he is a musician and uses whatver toold help him do the job he wants to do at the moment. He is entitled to a break from the Rickenbacker if he wants to take it. He has decided on a different direction for now.
