Yup. I am going to follow suit and nominate myself. Rockabilly style chicken pickin' on a 360/12 string, anyone? 'Cause that's what I play when I'm not stealin' licks from RM.

Sure I'll play along. Follow this link to 11 songs that I have recorded in my home studio. http://www.ilike.com/artist/Brian+Medwa ... w_upload=1

Listen to song number 11 (Georgia) and about half way through I use my 360v64 on a long extended lead outro. They are way more than a one trick pony as this clearly demonstrates. If you get lost listening to my other recordings on that site, I apologise in advance. :D

How about The Ramones?

I don't think anyone ever described Johnny Ramone as playing Jangle Pop :)

Although he was mostly known for playing a Mosrite, every once in a while you would see something like this........

Ouch!

I don't think that is absolutely true, as the last couple of MiniCons have had a lot of other styles performed ... like Led Zeppelin, and I don't think that would be 'jangle pop' by any stretch! :) Another one we've been doing is Pipeline ... surf is not jangle pop IMO.

I also don't think CCR is 'jangle pop' either ... but (apparently) I am the only local who knows CCR stuff, so I haven't played any of the CCR I know at the MiniCons.

I've posted this before, but here's a song by my group that features my playing both a six string WB (Big Red), and my 381/12, both quite overdriven. The live video footage shows me playing a Gretsch in part of the clip (feedback issues in the club that day that I couldn't eliminate for some reason), with my Blue WB sitting in the stand, but I played Rickenbackers for the studio recording. We should have another song video soon in which I'm actually playing the Rick I used to record the song. Anyway, here it is.

Collin and I were talking the other day and we're both of the opinion that we're not really concerned with getting a traditional Rickenbacker sound; we just like the way Rickenbackers look. :D

Oddly enough, in the recent "It's Alive" live DVD set, one of the best sounding songs he did was with a Rick. Geat pic too :D

I would agree with some points espoused by both Collin and Gary. I would theorize that some of the oldies/jangly-pop type tunes at MiniCon Jams are just the Confluencee's looking for a common denominator, a warming-up aspect of familar tunes, not necessarily that all attendees are biased towards famous Rickenbacker artists. Gary is absoutely right that at the last couple of MiniCons there have been lots of other styles of music performed...

Seems to be that the MiniCons are evolving with an ever expanding smorgasboard of music styles and tastes.

Which exemplifies the main point of this thread -- there is no cast-in-concrete definition of the Rick sound. Those musicians who criticize Ricks or who say they "are only for 60s or 80s cover bands" are themselves (more often than not) probably living a stereotypical musical existance  .... with their guitar/bass that some rock star was paid tens of thousands of dollars to endorse. :P

Besides the obvious characteristic of our exceptional good taste 8) ... it seems to me that what distinguishes Rickenbacker players from all other guitarists and bassists is the unique bond of fellowship and enthusiasm many of us share for these great instruments... and there is no better example of this, then here on this Forum. :)

Guy Picciotto of Fugazi and Unknown Hinson are the ones who come to mind for me.
