I saw him conduct The Cleveland Orchestra about 10 years ago, doing a Mozart concerto with Chick Corea on piano. Totally enthralled the packed venue during a part of the program that featured just Bobby and Chick doing things that got the audience involved, sort of like that video, just wonderful to a part of that. I am certain the typical orchestra patrons had no idea what they were about to be part of!!!
Yes, that was fun! It's kind of amazing how the pentatonic scale is such a big part of music in so many different parts of the world. He says that people "get it" wherever he goes. I wonder if it's because of familiarity with local (or other) music that uses that scale. I mean, if he were to go somewhere where there was no music, or a completely different scale were used (if there is such a place), would the people "get it"? Of course, maybe the reason it's so prevalent in music around the world is that there's some deep ingrained knowledge if that scale in our DNA for some reason...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
Yeah, there does seem to be something deeply ingrained in the primitive side of our brains with regards to the pentatonic scale. It must be something truly ancient in our collective consciousness.
