Eden Nemesis 4x10. Thoughts?

Post by Tarrbot »

I've come across 2 Eden amps recently with only the chance to play one (a Nemesis 2x10).

I was hoping to get a Markbass because I just have been blown away by the ability of the LM II.

However, it's come to my attention that I can plug in my GK 15" into either of these Eden amps and push more air if necessary.

Not that my garage needs any more air pushed through it but it's just for the future, I'm thinking.

Anyway, I looked online a bit and couldn't really find many reviews of this particular Eden combo amp.

I'm a little hesitant to put some money out on an amp I'm not sure about but the 2x10 sounded pretty good and the 4x10 is the same price as the 2x10 so maybe I'll find a good deal.

Any thoughts on the Eden Nemesis line of combo amps?

Scott, I haven't tried a combo, but I have played the Eden separates and found them sterile and uninspiring. But then I like Ampeg.... F W I N W.

Oh, input is always worth something John.

I'll probably play this and see what it sounds like--keeping an ear on the vanilla and sterile sound you state. The Nemesis 2x10 didn't sound that sterile to me when I played it last week but then again, I was a bit in a hurry to get out the door to another appointment.

Also, I tend to want to hear "how fat is it?" since I use a BP-80 pedal set a certain way and expect the pedal to add in some flavor anyway.

i had an nemesis 2-10" combo, that was quite loud, but it was a pretty dry sounding, so i traded it in for a gallien krueger 800 rb,which i really liked and gigged with for several years. also, the nemesis power supply would get hot and the amp would just shut down without warning. i would go for the markbass equipment myself-it's seems reliable and bulletproof, and sounds great.....

It always seems to come back to Markbass for me.

I have a hard time justifying the cost, though. That's my biggest hurdle. I don't gig so it seems overkill.

I just want that sound without maybe so much of the B O O M that it has built in.

Well, I do want the B O O M, I just don't can't justify the cost of it without getting paid to do it. Nothing major, just a little smaller but nothing that looks as useless as the 6" combo they make.

But the sound... Oh man.

They may be a bit pricy but you won't have GAS for an amp after that, so in reality, they are a bargain in the long run.

BTW, I have the double 6" Minimark, and it is far from useless, believe me! 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Well, I did say looks useless. ;)

I can't see how 6" cones can push much air.

But honestly, that may be the best combo I could ever need since I don't do anything much.

Does it have a pass thru for an external cab like the 2x10 Markbass combo?

Scott, go to a GC that has MarkBass in stock and take your Rick. Then you will know if that is where you want to spend your money. You may be really surprised by the little 2 x 6.

Another way to look at the cost is you are worth it. You work, don't carouse with other women, are taking care of business at home, raising your kids, and don't drink and run with your buds wasting money. You deserve to splurge a little.

Of course, I'm ASSuming all of the above...

Oddly, I don't do that anymore. And I quit smoking. And I have a 10% off coupon for GC. And I get discounts a lot of times there anyway. :)

If I can convince them to give me my regular discount and then whip out the coupon...

I've taken my beauty in to the local GC to play through some Markbass combos. I just haven't seen the 2x6 combo. I may do that tomorrow evening.

Guess I'll be taking it to work and going there straight after. :)

I won't be buying anything tomorrow since the guy I get discounts through is off on Thursdays but I'll still see what the 2x6 can do.

I use the MM regularly for band practice, it keeps up just fine if you are not crazy loud. The amp does have an ext. speaker jack for an 8Ω cabinet; I use my custom made EV B-110 and this is a great combination.

The controls are very simple, just a level control and the Markbass VLE and VPF filters, no need for anything else as this amp sounds really nice with a lot more bottom end than any amp this size and weight should have! 8) Did I mention it only weights 20 lbs.? :D

Um, ignore the dust!

What's your take on it for a low B? Do the 6'ers work well enough or does it require the external to make it work?

Not an issue since I already have a 15" I can output to but I'm just curious if they handle a low B well.

The one harmony central review of the minimark 2x6 is mixed--basically "great amp but wouldn't spend money on to replace (due to cost is implied)".

I don't use my 5 string much these days, so I should run it through the MM again, but I do recall it handling it fine.

i recently purchased a scratch n dent micro mark ($375 shipped!)from musicians friend, which is the 50 watter with 1-6'' speaker. it's 9 inches square, and weighs 10 pounds. it looks like a toy,but it sounds great for acoustic, works ok with a low b,and is surprisingly full sounding for such a tiny cube. it has a line out,so you could connect it to a p.a.,but i haven't had a chance to try that yet. it also has the mb"family" sound, very similar to the bigger 1-12" combo i sold, minus 200 watts and a much larger enclosure.....

Well, I convinced myself away from going to GC on the way home and stop by a local store instead that's known for having used equipment.

They had just gotten in some Avatar 2x10 cabs (rated at 500W each). I guess they were in the process of playing on them because they had a cheapo Hartke amp sitting on top of one of them.

I went back out to the truck, pulled out the Precious and went back in.

I've been eyeballing the Avatar Neo cabs for some time so I was curious how they'd sound.

After about 2 minutes of tweaking and thumping a few notes, I realized the cabs were solid. Very capable and very inexpensive.

Since I didn't have a head, I ended up getting the Hartke head for $100 and the cab for $250.

I know I'll eventually upgrade the head but for now it works and fixes my low B problem. :)

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. Maybe when I upgrade the head, I'll go to the LM II or III.
