Happy Woodstock 40th Anniversary!

Post by firstbassman »

"It was forty years ago today . . ."

That my (future) brother-in-law drove me and my sister and a friend up the New York State "Quickway" (Route 17) to Sullivan County for one of the best memories of my life.

And speaking of memories and "life" (get it?) the Life Magazine online photo archive at Google of Woodstock is here:

From a photo that appeared in the special issue, I remember seeing this girl, by the way, standing along the shoulder of Route 17B on Saturday afternoon as we returned to the site from sleeping in the car Friday evening:

So it is a special anniversary today. I should have planned something. Maybe I'll watch the movie again.

Paul mentioned the 40th Anniversary of Woodstock during his concert at Piedmont Park in Atlanta last night. He also mentioned that it was the 45th Anniversary (He was mistaken - It was the 44th) of the Beatles playing at Shea Stadium.

That was a great concert and peacful for the most part. Richie Havens was on fire that night.

We named our first cat Woodstock. She was a beautiful long haired grey tabby cat. Crazy as can be too. She would chase after me whilst running in a stand up position.

Yes Woodstock invokes all sorts of memories for me. Thanks for posting this.

No she wasjust a goofy playful cat Scotty. She loved to playfight and when she got in that mood she would adopt a fighting stance and run after me. When she caught me, she would play hard and then lick me on the nose or chin. She was great. Her life was far too short unforunately.

Happy 40th anniversary, Woodstock!

Oh! I never told you guys, with my hard-earned money, I managed to pickup the DVD last month. Maybe I'll watch my favorite acts from it today.

Did you get the deluxe 4 disc box set, with the two discs of bonus footage? It's absolutely awesome!

I did get the 4 disc deluxe edition, Kris. It would have been nice to see the Abbie Hoffmann VS. Pete Townshend incident, and I don't know why they didn't show it.

Yeah, I like the film----even though all the film splices and choppy footage are hard to follow, and few of the acts brought their "A-game." My favorite clip is Alvin Lee ripping it up on the ES-335

I was at the OC swap meet yesterday, they had some 60's cover band playing a "woodstock tribute" set. The band was pretty good, albeit a bit cartoonish with tie dyed shirt and "hippie" headgear. All fun and games, but it is always sad to see something that supposedly holds value and signifgance to people, reduced to basically commercialized tie-dye items, obligatory peace sign balloons and those dang yellow smiley faces (that was actually popularized in the 70s !). yuck...

From what I understand, there is no film footage of the infamous Abbie Hoffman incident. The couple of cameras catching the Who's performance chose that moment to change film. There is audio of the incident, however.
