A little retro jangle pop
A little retro jangle pop
Hey guys,
Was playing with some gear, trying to straighten out my studio, and this came out. One of the these days I'm going to get that jangle sound I so long for. I appreciate your taking time to listen.

Nice pop ditty. You're not far off from a nice Jangly tone - you definitely have the right guitar for it! What are you playing through? Maybe you just need to find the right amp to capture the tone you're looking for. I know it took me years to find the amp that I felt best captured the bass tone I was trying to nail.
Re: A little retro jangle pop
Chap, I think the studio is sounding good as does the tune! Good luck in your quest for 'the' sound.

That's fun! You have a nice "Eagles" kind of vibe going on here that is very well done. The bass seems a little buried, that's my only criticism. Thanks for posting!

great song, everything but the vocal sound wonderful. Its a great song, would love to hear it with the vox a little less pass-banded.

Sounds good. For a true retro sound, I think the vocals could be a bit more 'urgent' sounding.

Thanks James... I do have a question though. And please pardon my lack recording studio vocabulary. What is meant by "pass-banded"?jamespaul71 wrote: would love to hear it with the vox a little less pass-banded.

Re: A little retro jangle pop
A pass band would be all the middle frequencies coming through, while the high and low end frequencies being rolled off or cut back.

Chapman,
Try running the lyrics and the vocals together Bob Dylan/Tom Petty style, thus removing the awkward breaks between the lines. The song will flow better and you will get more urgency as Kris calls it in your vocals.
Also play close attention to pitch. Don't warble around a note, find it through practise and make sure you hit the note every time you sing it. Once you feel confident in your delivery, record it a few times until you are really happy with the result. Following this process will really pay off for you. This song has more than promise and so does your voice.
Just my two cents as a songwriter.

Re: A little retro jangle pop
as beatlefreak described, pass-banded simply means that only a certain range of sound is passing through... in your case, its actually more of an eq boost. You have way too much ~7k on it. Hope to hear an update at some pointlcjones wrote:Thanks James... I do have a question though. And please pardon my lack recording studio vocabulary. Great song! Sounds like Austin City LImits type music.
