LOL, I was thinking along the same lines...I don't believe anybody would say what I do with a Ric is a tribute to anyone.

Actually, for the purpose of the OP, I thought of U-2 right away, but I gotta tell ya, and I don't mean to appear rude, but when someone infers any guitar is a one or two trick pony, I kinda block out the rest of their opinion. Far as I know the vast majority of electric guitars out there have volume and tone knobs, and the amps they play through do too.

Imagine if folks still labeled Telecasters as classic age country guitars....

Not rude at all--in fact that's kinda the point of the whole thread! WE all know that it's BS to pigeonhole a Rickenbacker, but when it comes time to educate our less worldly friends and acquaintances, the artists in this thread make for good arguments! For whatever reason, folks who would never think of a Les Paul or a Telecaster as a one-trick pony DO tend to think if Rickenbackers in that way. This thread is a response to that injustice

I could not find it again, but I could have sworn that I ran across a video posted on the RRF of Juice Newton playing a 620/12 on "Queen of Hearts".

There you go - Rickenbacker; from Punk to Country and everything in between. Except for maybe no Acid Rock Rick. Probably no Grunge Rick. Most likey no Hip-Hop or Rap Rick or R & B Rick. But Jangle Pop 60's, Rock, Punk and Country - that ain't bad!

Because lets face it, all that other stuff is ...OK, not R & B, I take that one back.

There is some R&B - Funk.

Rick James, the Superfreak himself, played Rics and featured them on at least 2 of his record album covers; and Wendy from Prince's band The Revolution had a purple 330. I think it's even in the movie Purple Rain.

They're everywhere, but sometimes you have to look closely.

I went looking for one of the album covers that shows superfreak Rick James with his Rickenbacker. It was pretty easy to find, and then I found the second picture

He might have been a bigger Ric fan than we thought
