COY

Will "Pumpkinglo" ever be COY? I'm hoping....
Because I told you before- oh, you can't do that.

So I've gathered that COY is obviously Color of the Year but what's so special about it other than it being a color for that year?

Is it a one year only color that never comes up again?

If that's the case, I don't see the appeal of a single year only color. It seems kind of limiting to me in terms of desirability of a brand (outside of the fanatics--like us). Obviously it will increase the value of a specific instrument due to limited color availability but other than that I don't see the appeal.

Obviously I'm wrong in that mindset since it's prevalent here and obviously seemed to have worked well in the past.

I just don't see the "greatness" that is COY. Maybe I'm missing details though.

Anyone have any other details and want to elaborate on them for us heathens? :)

It's another color choice in a world that's Fireglo, Mapleglo, Jetglo and Midnight Blue.

Nah Scott, I think you've pretty well psyched it out. It's the collector item thing. And that's cool if that's what you're into. But me, ...well I'm not into it either. I just want to play my Rick.

Hmmm, as much as I like the non-COY offerings, all of my ricks are COYs and discontinued color/finishes. I didn't buy them for resale value, I just really liked how they looked/worked for me.

I'd love to see Turquoise Glo. Here's a "Photoshopped" edit of my 360/12 C63.

Ron: Would you want the fretboard to be in turquoise as well? :)
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

I think the turquoise fretboard looks cool, but rosewood probably wouldn't take up a turquoise stain very well.

If it wasn't for COY, there would never have been Montezuma Brown, which in my opinion, is one of the best RIC finishes.

Paul, that's a beautiful RIC bass. What's nice about Monty Brown is that I've seen some great variations in the shading. Yours is the lighter shade of brown around the body edges, which reminds me of Autumn Glo...another fantastic RIC finish. My 340 has the darker brown around the body edge, which I also like very much.

Incidently, I like your personalized gold guard. How did you place the lettering....decal?.....on the underside of the guard?.....on top of the guard?....very nicely done, indeed !!!

Your Turquoise Glo link doesn't work...

Briefly, you can't change the color of the fretboard without painting it a solid opaque color (like Tuxedos and Blackstars), though it could theroretically be tinted a color darker than its natural shade. I've done a couple of maple replacement boards (including one in birdseye maple), and we all know about Ebony.

Here's one of my favorite custom colors...I have called it "Aquaglo" and have done lots of Rick models (including acoustics) in it at least once.
