New "F Bass"!
New "F Bass"!
I was alluding to this purchase over in the "For Sale" section, so I figured I'd post some pics and info here. Last weekend I popped into a local music just to look around (famous last words!), when on my way out I spotted a sea-foam green bass behind the counter. As some of you may know, I have a serious weakness for Sea Green Ricks, so I had to check it out. When I got it in my hands I was blown away - it was a new F Bass "VF" model (made In Hamilton Ontario), with a beautiful bound rosewood fingerboard and matching sea foam green headstock. The salesman said the bass was on hold, but I gave him my contact info in case the deal fell though. A few days later he called to tell me the original fellow wasn't going to take it (his wife wouldn't let him!), and the bass my mine if I wanted it. We worked out a deal and in a couple of days I picked it up. As good as it sounded (and felt) in the store, it was even better at a rehearsal later that night. A bit pricey, but the craftsmanship, playability and sound are all top notch!

Re: New "F Bass"!
Steve, your headline is such a tease for bassists!
Re: New "F Bass"!
IMHO this "F Bass" is better than that "F" bass!

I knew exactly what that F stood for.paologregorio wrote:Steve, your headline is such a tease for bassists!
Very interesting, Steve, so VF stands for Vintage F, eh? Truly a different look for George's instruments.

Pretty sneaky, eh? Made me hafta look, too.paologregorio wrote:Steve, your headline is such a tease for bassists!
All I wanna do is rock!

Ah, you're a smart lad Jeff - no fooling you, eh?jps wrote:I knew exactly what that F stood for.)
As a "local" builder, I had known of George Furlanetto and his instruments for years, and had been to the shop in Hamilton several times (it used to also house a music store). I wasn't aware of the VF series until I saw this bass, but when I tried it out I was sold! The electronics feature a 3 band bass/mid/treble boost which makes it incredibly easy to dial in your tone. As much as I like Rickenbackers, this F Bass has left me with a serious case of FAS!
Re: New "F Bass"!
Steve, it's sweet looking... and the F's do sound nice!
Re: New "F Bass"!
Fooled me and I learned something. I thought you meant Fedora. Beautiful bass, Steve. Impressions and tone?

Hey John - the basic sound (with the three band EQ boosts turned off), is a very nice warm jazz single coil sound. Once you start adding the active EQ boots, you can dial in a wide range of usable tones. This EQ is actually available in a pedal ( http://www.fbass.com/html/accessories.html ). But for me much of the appeal of this bass is the ergonomics - its light and resonant, and just a joy to play. It was setup perfectly and I don't feel like I'm fighting against any physical aspect of the bass which (hopefully) allows me to play better!johnallg wrote:Fooled me and I learned something. I could swim in that bass. Props to you on your new score.....Goofyfoot.
Play on, pick often, jam with any Rickenbacker, and prosper.
Re: New "F Bass"!
Thanks, Steve. Sounds like a bass that is really hard to put down, one you want to just keep playing.
Jeff - THIS Fedora!
