Re: SOMEONE STOLE MY RIC
Wow! I can't believe the stupidity. Although it doesn't look like the Bay seller is the thief. Still, he/she received stolen goods.
Hope it all works out for you, Jake. I know you're busy sorting all of this out, but please post a pic when you're reunited with your baby. I'm so excited for you.
On a side note: this forum is awesome. It makes me proud as a Ric owner to know there is a community of people looking out for their fellow musicians. Bravo!

THIS IS FANTASTIC! I'm so glad things are going well and really hope you get your beautiful bass back soon!
(And, given the value of a nice instrument like this, isn't it some kind of a felony to steal it? I hope this means that the person who is selling it on Ebay can point to the guy he got it from and the cops toss that creep behind bars for a bit and give him a criminal record that will follow him for the rest of his creepy life.)

Because I told you before- oh, you can't do that.

No expert, but it appears to be a Class B felony which is a maximum sentence of 10 years in jail and/or a $20,000 fine.Bighouse wrote:THIS IS FANTASTIC! I'm so glad things are going well and really hope you get your beautiful bass back soon!

Re: SOMEONE STOLE MY RIC
Well the police are taking their SWEET A** TIME at doing this and maybe get to it today (I notified them yesterday) but I ll just have to wait and see what happens. I've been callin them all morning and they wont respond but I hope they get this guy soon. Thanks Jakeox for the email letting me know! Great way to wake up with my email saying YOUR STOLEN BASS IS ON EBAY! :]
Re: SOMEONE STOLE MY RIC
Great to hear they are working on it! I'm hoping that the time they're spending is due to trying to put together a good case in order to make an arrest of the guy who stole it. Hopefully, you'll get your bass back soon and they'll get the guy responsible for your misery...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
Re: SOMEONE STOLE MY RIC
If they're worth their salt, that's exactly what they're doing. They're 1) working with the prosecutor to verify what s/he needs in order to proceed and 2) making contacts with ebay and verifying address/location.cjj wrote:Great to hear they are working on it! Let's just say this is "sold" tomorrow and the police haven't done anything at that point.
With proper verification and such, ebay should turn over to the police where the bass should have been sent to. Now, with that said, if the seller and buyer decide to ship to a non-verified address there's not a lot that can be done on where it's phyically at, but they can still find out the banking information used to buy the bass and work backward from there.
Right now, you should have patience and I'm certain that is very frustrating but it's found. That's the most critical part here. It is found. It may take a few days or even a week or two before it's returned.
Just sit back and bide your time. It's your bass. You filed the police report months ago. There's no dispute on where it came from. After all is said and done, you'll have it back but you have to be very patient.
Then again, they could go get it today and have it back to you tonight.
Either way, you win so long as you're patient.
Re: SOMEONE STOLE MY RIC
Yeah, as tough as it is waiting, don't alienate the police now. Goal in sight.
Re: SOMEONE STOLE MY RIC
Actually, as a "thank you" to the police, and a bit of grease in the wheels- maybe your band could offer to play at some Policeman's Ball for free! Might help make some friends in the local police department in the even this kind of thing ever happens again.johnallg wrote:Yeah, as tough as it is waiting, don't alienate the police now. (Note: as an amatuer bass player not in a band, and not a very good one at that, I have no idea what the value of a band's time is so this suggestion may be way off-base.)

This one?

Any news yet Jake? I have been following these developments with extreme interest.

Re: SOMEONE STOLE MY RIC
Jake, maybe you should hit the BIN for the auction and get the info to the seller.
I can't believe this auction is still running.
That OR.....contact the seller, and tell him you want to buy the bass today but need to check it out first for playability...He may have bought the bass innocently but that doesn't make him innocent as far as the law is concerned.

Re: SOMEONE STOLE MY RIC
Since the police are involved I would let them take care of matters...last thing you want to do is to complicate the matter or do something that might make getting your bass back more difficult to do.
Because I told you before- oh, you can't do that.
