Kent I removed the link to the article you posted about Paul McCartney. Posting profanity or links that contain profanity is simply not allowed on this forum. End of story. Please be mindful of that as you try to make your point about an issue.

Please completely read a link before you post it. In this case one of the offending words was right in the title. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this regard.

Well, Brian... you're the moderator, so what you say will be the way it is .... but since when is "a**hole" profanity? Besides, it was Heather who called Paul that word.... very publicly.... not me.

We're not children in this forum. I think we can handle words like that without falling apart ..... just my humble opinion, of course.

Kent, you make a valid point. But context is something that is not well regarded in an internet forum. One sees the word and takes it as acceptable in any post and in any situation. I personally have no issue with it whatsoever, but it's not up to me. So, reluctantly, but with great understanding, I stand with the management on this one.

This is one of the things that differentiates us from many other forums on the internet. To be sure, my wife and I swear like truck drivers, but I don't do it here (my wife doesn't own a Rick, but if she did, blah, blah, blah).

Have you seen or read the comments on news stories on yahoo, etc.? If you owned a business, would you hire any of them? Wow! These people seem to think trash-talking is like ordering a steak. Let's please not become that!

Thanks for your understanding Kent.

Let's be clear about what my role is. I moderate on a global basis on this forum in accordance with the established rules. The few rules that we have are very clear and very sensible. I like to have a bit of fun just like most of you, but when my global moderator hat is on you will no doubt notice that even though I have many friends on this board that I treat you all equally. I believe that I exercise fairness in my approach to our membership, but I am also very firm and resolute.

So let me explain my decision to remove that link so it is clear to all who may read eventually this post. First of all after reading the link, I checked to see if the forum moderator was on the forum. He was not in evidence. I decided to remove that portion of your post because it contravened our rules.

The word in question is most definitely profane and it is considered to be a word not suitable for audiences of all ages. Quite simply it is a derogatory vulgar word. Usage of such language on a forum such as ours is a slippery slope and it is a slippery slope that we elected to avoid by creating a few simple rules in the first place.

I removed the link and left a note because we have been making the original poster responsible to vet the content of any links posted.

Where we see continued deliberate and flagrant abuse we will address our concerns privately with the poster and deal with the situation accordingly.

I trust this has answered your comment sufficiently. If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to ask. I am after all is said and done, here to help.

Brian: In the link posted on the Lennon Bashes Beatles thread, you will find the word "a**holes" (see in Reader Comments 7 of 16).
I guess you'll need to delete that posting too.

Just trying to help.

Kent,

Obviously Peter, Gil and I can't read or view absolutely every link and every subsequent comment embedded in a link that is posted over time. We look to our section moderators and our long term members to assist us to maintain the decorum of this forum.

I am sure that if one goes searching for use of profane language that you will turn up a few that have slipped by over the years. But that does not give licence or make it right. We do our level best to catch those that have slipped our notice and purge them. We are simply asking for the cooperation of all who post on this forum to read what you post, especially any links, or attachments and not post anything that contains profanity.

None of this should be a surprise to anyone. The rules have not changed significantly in all the years I have been a member and we have made sure in the very recent past through various Admin posts on this very topic that members understand this expectation.

If I or Gil or Peter can be of further assistance, let us know as we are always glad to help clarify the rules of this forum.
