4001C64S wiring problem

I just bought this 4001C64S recently and put a jumper on the cap. I noticed afterwords that the treble tone control cuts the horseshoe off when turned down. I resoldered it tonight and no change. I don't know if it was doing that prior to adding the jumper. Everything seems to be order. What do you guys think??

Sam, remove your jumper you added and see if the controls work as they should then. If so, it was the jumper. That jumper (I don't see it in your pictures) should be directly across the little yellow capacitor. Also, I can't tell from the picture angles, do the center of the shielded wires from the pickups go to the upper switch blades where the .047uF white caps are soldered?

Did you jumper the right cap? The one you want to jumper is the orange colored cap. The two white caps are tone caps and should remain in circuit.

I'll try removing the jumper. If that works i'll just remove the cap. I jumped the correct cap, I have jumped cap's successfully on several 4001's.

The jumper wire needs to go across the little yellow cap from the selector switch lug to the middle lug of the treble volume pot.

I pulled the jumper. Same problem treble tone pot kills the horseshoe when turned down. I jumped the cap from point to point (switch to pot). I have to get up early in the AM. I'll try removing the cap tomorrow night. The bass plays and sounds great. I guess I just voided my warranty though

Sam, the only way that can happen is if the white .047uF cap from the switch to the tone pot is shorted out either internally (failed, which I doubt) or externally by something touching the wires that shouldn't.

John, I noticed the .047uF caps were loose. I did fold them over out of the way, maybe I lost the connection or broke solder joint. I'll check tonight when I get in. Thanks everyone, I'll post the results tonight.

When you say 'loose', what do you mean? Are the ends where they're soldered loose?

Kris, I thought when I folded the .047mfd caps over to solder the jumper, I broke the connection. I resoldered it, still same problem. Maybe I have a bad cap??

You say that the pickup drops out with the tone all the way down, Does the tone vary over the rest of the range? If so, I doubt it's a bad cap. It's the cap that causes the rolloff of frequencies to vary the tone.

Maybe I have a bad treble tone pot?? The treble does roll off until it cuts off totally. The volume is also increased when the treble tone is turned @ full volume.

Just re: electronics. Which aren't hard to replicate if you need... that'd be the least thing I'd worry about voiding the warranty on. The wood is what you don't want to mess with!!

Thats what I love about my wilfer bass "wood", no electronics!!
