Dude, you're so funny (and quick to fold). These are both characteristics on Rics you've owned (quite vocally too!).JakeK wrote:Personally, short scales (and three pickup Rics) don't move me.

The guitars were cool, but:
The 325 was just too small. I looked like I was playing a mandolin, and it was very easy to make a mistake on it. I sold it to a forum member (hardly visits), who enjoys it, and it gets more use with him than it ever did with me.
As for the 1997SPC, I was mostly using the bridge pickup, but when I would get into my playing with windmills and whatnot. A friend of mine said when he looked at the middle pickup on my 1997SPC, "That middle pickup looks like a family of sharp-clawed cats had a dance party".

Re: Looking for input RE: 325C64 vs. 350V63
I actually separated the middle and neck pickups on my 320 and use the blend knob to control the middle one. That gives me seven switching options with infinite variations thereof - tonal power not to be dismissed lightly, in my book. Who cares if the cover looks a little worn?

I've actually got a (somewhat) deal on a two pickup 1997, similar to the broken one (it WILL be repaired...probably next year), only older, and the reason I like the two pickups is it's just what a Rickenbacker should look and sound like
Not to mention, both Tom Petty AND Pete Townshend played the two pickup 1997.

Nice! Tone is king, Kira. And I agree, natural wear is nothing to be ashamed of. It means that the instrument has been loved by its owner.... and besides, they're only guitars fer cryin' out loud; wood, metal, magnets and plastic. It's not as if they're made of precious metals or valued works of art by the grand masters. Abuse? Well, that's a different matter altogether but player wear is a badge of honor.kiramdear wrote:I actually separated the middle and neck pickups on my 320 and use the blend knob to control the middle one. Perhaps I phrased what I said wrong. No matter how I tried, I couldn't train myself not to hit the middle pickup with my pick resulting in some horrible scratches.
Re: Looking for input RE: 325C64 vs. 350V63
I've tried a number of short scale Ricks, Mike, and I just couldn't come to grips with them from a playing aspect. Anything above the 5th or 6th fret in the way of chords was virtually impossible for me as I don't have 'pencil' fingers.... which would help.
That's why I have four v63s - including a 12 string. Love the body size and style but need the extra scale length. Perhaps if you want that 'honky' 325 sound you could put Pyramid flats on aV63. I tried them and that's how it sounded. I took them straight off again because I don't like the lack of 'feel' with flatties and I didn't want that sound anyway.
If he's big and has 'fattish' fingers he may well struggle with a short scale on anything other than open chords.
Just my .02 you understand.

Them three pickup Rics is ugggggggly.

Thank you, Aitch! Sounds like you guys have very similar hands, so I'll be certain to mention your experience to him when I see him at our 6 hour rehearsal on Monday.... yea, I said 6 hours. I'm beat just thinking about it! LOLozover50 wrote:I've tried a number of short scale Ricks, Mike, and I just couldn't come to grips with them from a playing aspect. I've got 4 hours myself today and that's a long haul. 6 hours would just about see me in a coffin!!
Cheers, Mike.

Could someone or many of you take at look at this auction and give me your impressions. He's interested in possibly buying this one ---

Re: Looking for input RE: 325C64 vs. 350V63
It certainly looks the goods, Mike. In particular I like the lighter shade of the fingerboard. Of course Jetglo will show up every rotten fingerprint or sweaty arm mark but a regular dash of one of the recommended cleaners/polishes will keep it looking a million bucks!
If he can pick it up at that price or not much more he'll have done very well. Given the current economic climate it may well not attract all that many bids - if any.
I'd certainly be keeping my eye on it!

Thanks, Aitch! I've a hefty supply of the cleaners here and will be definitely recommending that he give them a go. I know it did wonders on both my 360/12V64 and the C63.

Not a bad idea, Ken. I'll pitch that tomorrow afternoon or may suggest that today -- we're all discussing a New Year's Eve gig at the moment via e-mails. Would he capo at the 3rd fret or 5th for this?
