The Sundays

Post by scotty »

The Sundays were an English alternative rock group. The band, formed in the mid-1980s, released three albums in the late 1980s and 1990s. Their music is characterised by singer Harriet Wheeler's dreamy voice, David Gavurin's rich and jangly guitar sound, and suspension-rich harmonies.Anyone likey? I was am a massive admirer of such amazing moments in music and The Sundays in my book never got what they deserved in recognition.
Reaching a musical Zenith and capitulating a moment in British music that beams me back to a moment where possibly I am content.Enjoy or dont...

One of my top ten, definitely. Dave Gavurin ranks up there with Johnny Marr in my opinion.

And Harriet... amazing.

Yep, another The Sundays fan here... 4-5 times in a year I come back and listen to them. They're one of my lifetime favorite bands.

I saw the Sundays on their debut album tour with a couple of friends at the Roxy on the Sunset Strip. The band put in an energetic, flawless performance that topped the recording, and lacking any extra numbers with which to perform an encore, the group repeated their opening number of "Can't Be Sure" to applause at least equal to that the song received the first time around. :D

Aside from the musical highlights, one of the memorable moments of the evening was spotting a then 16-year old Drew Barrymore, fresh out of a much publicized rehab, watching from the upstairs V.I.P. balcony, apparently reasonably sober, and actually into the band's music. :D

Thanks, Scott, I can dig it. Sad words, pretty voice, somehow it equals out at the end of the day. Or maybe your timing is just right.

They only released THREE albums before saying goodbye to stardom (to raise their kids).
Each one is an uncompromising work of beauty, including the unlikely Stones cover (the only cover in their canon).
To this day I play them regularly.
