Weller and Foxton
How do people feel about the news that Paul Weller and Bruce Foxton are playing together again?
The pair have renewed their friendship after Weller helped Foxton through the recent death of his wife Pat (to cancer), and Foxton attended the funeral of Paul's father and former Jam manager John Weller.
Paul is currently busy working on his new solo album (due out in the spring) at his home studio in Surrey, and after an invite from Paul, Foxton has been going down to the studio to work on some ideas together.
It's no secret the Paul and former Jam drummer Rick Buckler don't get along, and this weekend Rick Buckler announced that he has quit "From The Jam", the band that he and Foxton have been playing in for the last couple of years.
Strong rumours suggest that Buckler's decision to quit is down to the fact that he was unhappy with Foxton working with Weller again.
I'm quite intrigued by the whole thing, and look forward to hearing anything that may come out of the sessions.
And on a different track, did you know that the young Paul Weller was a Star Trek fan?
Here is the proof.....

Rob: Quite exciting news. Thanks for this information. I look forward to their new recording.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Thanks for the post Rob; I had no idea about the friction between Buckler and Weller. I had thought the friction was between Weller and both of his former band mates. That's interesting that those two are working together. I think the rhythm section of Foxton and Buckler was great, and would have been for even the Style Council-just add Mick Talbot to the Jam, and one ends up with a superior version of the latter group, though Whitey's no slouch on the drums, that's for sure!

Re: Weller and Foxton
A lot of the friction between the 3 was down to Buckler sueing the Wellers for alleged unpaid royalties, which was eventually settled out of court.paologregorio wrote:LOL!!!kiramdear wrote:Fascinating ...![]()

Buckler then set up a web site and company selling Jam merchandise in direct competition to the Wellers, up to that point it was Wellers Mother and sister that had handled that side of the business.
Foxtons original beef was really that he just couldn't handle the break up of the band, and I think it's taken a long time for those scars to heal.
It must've been hard for him to sit and watch Wellers success over the following years, which was in no small way down to a lot of the hard work that they all put into The Jam.
Anyway, like most folk, I will be 'watching that space.'
A paparazi photographer took this sneaky picture of paul and Bruce playing in Pauls living room...."watch the light shade, Bruce!"

Brilliant.
Re: Weller and Foxton
Wow, that will be something if it actually happens.
I've seen this photo of Weller before but I never noticed what was behind him. Is that a case of baked beans..upside down? I've heard of some crazy dressing room requests but this is a first.

Re: Weller and Foxton
Very interesting scoop Rob. Weller rarely makes a bad call on the musicians he works with these days and Foxton is a very good player. I saw Bruce and Rick last year (out shopping) and Bruce still looks the part.
Bruce just looked totally shocked and gutted at the end of the Jam, but he has appeared in Weller orientated DVD footage and so the relationship wasn't totally broken. I had also read that Weller had picked up the phone when he had heard that Foxton's wife was ill, which is quite touching.
Yeah, I'd like to see it.

Mick Talbot did play some piano on Setting Sons.paologregorio wrote: Thanks for the post Rob; I had no idea about the friction between Buckler and Weller. Re: Weller and Foxton
It's definitely true, as the original source of this story was from a recent local radio interview with Foxton.allmodcons wrote:First thing I found myself doing after reading this, was to see if this was posted on April 1st.... but still....exciting news,if true...!
Re: Weller and Foxton
