Hey all: Being an upright bass player, I was looking to raise the action on my 650D. I was doing so by raising the individual saddles using an 0.05" allen wrench. All went well until I raised one too high (I thought I had room left, but alas, no), and the small black threaded tube dropped from the saddle assembly.
What's my best course of action here? (I'm hoping I can just remove the string in question, flip the saddle back toward the tailpiece, and re-install the threaded tube. But that just seems too easy.)
1 - to get the threaded tube back in place, and
2 - to raise the whole saddle assembly rather than individually. Even my overadjustment did not raise the action nearly enough for me.
Much thanks,
John

Re: Bridge Saddle Fix on a 650 Dakota
The grub screws (as they're commonly called) on a 650 bridge can simply be reinserted from the top of the bridge, as the hole is threaded all the way through - No removal of the string necessary. If the height adjustment screws don't allow you enough travel to achieve the saddle height you want, find some new grub screws with the same gauge and thread count, but in a longer size. The grubs on a 650 bridge are 7/32" in length, so perhaps a 1/4" or 9/32" length would suit you better. This would be the easiest fix with the least modification.

Re: Bridge Saddle Fix on a 650 Dakota
Why thanks, Kris. I'll just have to be sure to get the correct gauge and thread count, as you mentioned. And now I know the proper term for these little guys.
Edit: Easy as pie. I've got the saddles nicely crowned to match the fingerboard, and we'll see how it works out. Some longer replacements will likely be in order. I'll check Stewie-Mac first. Anyone know the other specs (other than 7/32" length that Kris posted)?
Thanks again.
