I've had my 1982 4001S (avatar image) since 1984, or 25 years. It was brand new. I went through a home break-in where it could have been taken in the mid-90's, but it was hidden in the lowest level bathroom, so I was very fortunate. She still looks very pretty, and like wints I don't get rid of a lot. The 4001S will be my last bass if it ever comes to that.

Gee, i must have been heavily napping to have missed this thread all this time.

IIRC, the Rickenbackers that I have owned the longest are my 4000 FL BG (around August 1998) and my 325v59 JG (proabably also in 1998). I no longer own the first Rickenbacker that I bought, a 360/12 MG in February of 1998.

A long lineage--My first purchase was in 1976, a used 1966 330/12 Jetglo. Unfortunately, this beauty succumbed to a basement flood in 1991. After the 'funeral', a made a bee-line to Royal Music, located in Brooklyn, New York. Hanging from the ceiling was a new 370/12 Jetglo. I did not hesitate one second--it had to be mine. And what a deal! Only $1000.00, including case and Ric-O-Sound box. However, my addiction for Rics did not wane. A few years later, I said to my brunette wife, "I need a blond." I should have used a better choice of words. She did not understand that I was referring to a Mapleglo Ric. I called Chris Clayton as soon as the hospital discharged me, and a new arrival came within the week--a 1995 Maplego 330/12 with toasters. Then an Bluburst 330/ with toasters became part of my family. And the last Ric was the 330 75th Anniversary. Don't get me wrong--I love my wife. But with a a Ric, you can always turn down the volume.

I'm not sure about dates, but I do know it's more than 20 years ago that I bought my first Rickenbacker. A beat-up 4000. I still own it, and I think I will allways do.
