Gold Guards

Post by bubbasweet »

Where do you guys get your gold guards. I got some custom made from the Pickguardian a couple years back for my 68. Extremely happy with the craftsmanship but not so happy with the color, they look more like copper than gold. I have Rick gold guards and they have tiny microscopic gold flake like thing to them and they are lighter we actually ihave 3 shades. All look GOLD. Mine look dull copper.. I might get the clear guards made at pickguardian but then either paint them myself or,,, Anyone have any suggestions? Gold guards are my favorite thing!

Luckily I have 2 gold trusses.

Another question. Did Rick early on like 50's ever hand paint the gold guards or were they always sprayed. Might be a good question for JH.

I understnad that you can send in a guard or TRC to Pickguardian, and they're good about matching the color.

Sprayed, AFAIK-----as the color was achieved by mixing crescent bronzing powder with clear coat, it wouldn't look the same or even if it was hand painted.

I'm not sure how it was two years ago, but now Pickguardian offers three different shades of gold guards.

Yes you might be right. The 3 Golds may have come later or I might have not been aware or so picky back then.

He said if I send 15.00 he will send me a sample of all 3 colors on plastic. I am going to do this.

I am happy with the color of the reissue gold guards I have from rick. I will see the samples from PGuardian and then go from there.
