Janglebox 1 question

I dont have a cool leather coat to enhance my folky street cred, but I have used the 'dark' setting on my JB....It did a real nice job of making my tele sound a bit like a hollow body guitar...we were working on a version of Maybelline and it gave a pretty good simulation of the "whomp" of the rhythm guitar on the Chuck Berry version of the tune....

Guys: FYI I changed the battery, but the JBox 1still sounds very dark with the switch on dark. It sounds like the neck p/u with the tone knob cranked, that is, very muffled. Good for jazz, maybe, but not for rock & roll. I have decided that this is NOT a defect in the JBox. It is more a case of setting the tone on the amp. It's also a case of bad ears on my part.

BTW: The gain on the JBox is GREAT!

I usually use mine on bright for the twelves, but have occasionally used it on dark with a six-string. On one tune I was looking for a foggy, muffled tone like Steven Stills use to occasionally use and it worked quite well, giving me a lot of sustain and a nice dull pop when a lick would start. There is a chunk of it that starts about 2:25 and runs to about 3:58 on this batch of samples, It's playing the lead guitar parts on my old hollow Epiphone EA255 (kind of like a Casino, but with a walnut body and mini-humbuckers) with nearly all the treble rolled off of the guitar.

It'll be kind of fun if I ever get some real lyrics written for it. The instrument tracks have all been done and recorded for months and have kind of a nice build all the way through as stuff gets added, but the lyrics are just demos to fill space at the moment. ll probably take it in the direction it was going with the lyrics, but no concrete ideas yet. There really isn't much space in this one for any long lines or a dragged-out story, so whatever goes in there better be short, sweet and to the point. I've noticed on some of these tunes where I write it, play all the parts for the demo myself and do a bunch of mixes, that I tend to end up listening to it so many times that I get burned-out on the tune before it's done. It never seems to hurt to "back-burner" it for a while and come bach fresh later and try to finish it.

Run it through a rotary speaker (or emulator) and mimic a jazz organ sound a la Charlie Hunter.

I have to say that the Janglebox 1 that I have is far from a one trick pony. I use mine as my only live pedal and it's fab.

My favourite live set up is a Vox AC30CC2 on the 'vintage' and 'hot' settings on the rear panel. I basically have the knob settings close to the 'classic' setting.
With that I mostly use just 2 guitars live, a 330/6 and a 360/12, and of course the JB1. And that's it.
The set we play requires a variety of sounds from my rhythm playing, everything from full on 6 string distorted gain to clean and shimmering 12 string jangle. I can achieve all of this and more in between without having to return to my amp to adjust the settings, I just do everything on the JB and it works wonderfully.
I can easily achieve and control some cool feedback too. I've had so many people compliment me on my guitar sound after gigs, and most of that is down to the JB.
I couldn't even contemplate ever having to play a gig without it now, it's always the first thing that I pack.
