Greetings, I'm the original owner of a walnut 4001 that I purchased in 1976. This seems to be a rarer finish than most. Anyone else have a 4001 with the same finish?

Bernie, welcome. I know there are others here with that finish. Is it glossy or matte finish?

Hi and welcome to the forum Bernie,

I have an Autumn Glo 4001 with white pickguard and TRC which is basically the same as yours but it has a matte finish.

I had an '81 walnut 4001 until recently. It went to a fellow member here and is being taken very good care of. I loved it and found the finish very beautiful.

Welcome Bernie. I too bought a walnut 4001 in November 1976. It was made in October '76. Walnut was a special color, I remember paying an extra $10 for it - $410 with the hardshell case. It's my prize possession. I posted a few pics in the color of the week thread. Ron

Welcome Bernie.

With more than 8,000 instruments in our Register, we have found 20, Rickenbacker 4001 models with a walnut finish.

Thanks all for the warm welcome! My Ric has a glossy finish. I just registered it today and found that it was manufactured in November of '74, more than a year before I bought it. The '76 models were on display, but the salesman, whom I had known and trusted for several years, got this one out of the store basement. I ran my hand down the neck and bought it without even plugging it into an amp. I almost sold it a couple of times, but I'm really happy I didn't. :D
