Looking at that 330/12 reminds me of my earlier post, and how Ric guitars from the 70's are, generally, in much better condition than the basses, due to low use.

This example looks one of the best, especially in BG.

If anyone is interested, I am selling my 330/12 shown above on eBay. I really don't want to sell it, but I need the cash within the next week. :-(

Good luck Rod.

Hope someone here picks it up, with the possible option of selling back to you one day.

Spent some time with it last night and decided to pull it. I just can't bear to sell it right now. :-(

A wise decision... You'd get more for one of your kidneys anyway... :P

Well, it's looking like I have to sell it. So I relisted it with new photos. It's such a pretty guitar. I know I'll be kicking myself for this but here it is:

I don't think Rickenbacker quality declined, they were and still are more or less a cottage industry instrument producer. They are not mass produced on a massive scale like let's say Fender. I would say their quality is good, there's just some of us that know certain benchmarks that we prefer to stay within...'63-'73 and so on. There are clear cut time periods I like, yet I've owned 3, 4000 series basses from '77 to '81 that I loved to play, although I prefer the time period stated previously. They are as close to "custom" that you'll ever get and have the pleasingly odd shapes that no other manufacturer came close to. Im sure some instruments have had problems as have one of mine, but in the greater scope of things, they perform brilliantly as intended. It is hard to control mother nature ("wood") as it will do what it wants. we can only cut it, dry it, sculpt it, glue it, paint it, ship it, receive it, play it and hope to God it will hold together for generations to come if we take care of it.

There are many variables after it leaves Mr. Hall's factory. Warrantees are only a method of good faith in the product for a limited amount of time, but should not be held responsible for using it as a canoe paddle when there's a flood in the neighborhood, or holding over the mouth of a volcano like a marshmallow on a stick or stroking it in the sauna...the guitar I mean !!! I remember having my '81 4001s on a stand too close to the par 64 lights in 1982...I smelled some electical type smell and turned around to see a vapor mist coming off the back of the bass (it was jetglo )! Actually, there was no damage to the finish at all, but boy was she hot! Once it cooled down everything was normal and no glue joints popped.

As far as numbers go, I don't think there was a decline due to the popularity of Rush, Yes, Starcastle, BTO, Paul McCartney...every body wanted a rick! Then the resurgeance of the '80's i'm sure was a boon to the guitars with Petty, Suzanna Hoffs, The Smithereens, etc.

That's high quality, my friends!
