360C63 Inlays

Post by ken_j »

I though I would post a few pics of the poured inlays vs. the new sheet material. For some reason the poured inlays have a sparkly look to them when photographed but not in person. I tried with and without the flash.

Interesting. The sheet ones tend to convey better in pictures.

I think the sheet inlays look good but the poured inlays look more period correct to me.

+1

kind of a toss-up, really. I think the "effect" of the poured type is closer to the original crushed pearl (where it gets that opaque type layered look), but the bright white of the sheets is nice.

......one day......hoping for factory Crushed pearl.....sigh. (and 21 frets!). :P

Whatever, stick to vintage. You know what's up.

In reference to the OP: so those are both C63 inlays? George's were grey and not sparkly at all, so the poured ones would be more accurate.

The C63 is an exact replica of George Harrison's first Rickenbacker that was manufactured in december 1963. That guitar didn't have CP inlays. The first Rickenbackers with CP inlays appeared in 1964. So it's correct, the poured ones are closest to the original.

Yes, of course...I wasn't suggesting that CP is correct in any sense...but I can't resist a CP beauty shot, just like Jeff keeps posting those pics of his JG 4005WB and taunting me...

Scotty was wondering how the sheet inlays will age...consider that they're the same material as the guards (methyl methacrylate), and white guards still look white after 50 years. These should look gorgeous for decades to come, provided the CV doesn't yellow. And if the CV yellows, it'll help the whole guitar to look consistently ambered...just as nice IMO.
