Interesting assessment of Rick availability in your hemisphere. I think you're correct on Oz being the closest outlet to you. They must have a history of dealing Ricks, because I've noticed that a lot of recent '64 1999 acquisitions have happened there.

I checked out your Myspace offerings - dig the heaviness of the sound! Although, the bass could be turned up a bit in the mix for my taste. (That being said, most people complain that the bass is too loud in my mixes.) But I did hear the bass nicely in 'My Love Is Like Whoa' and 'Siesta.'

My lefty is also the most snarl-rific bass I have. With those huge 1&1/2" magnets and the tone caps bypassed, there's nothing to temper the treble. However, I do have the low-cut cap in line. If you go to my Myspace site, you can here & see the bass there on the 'I Want To Hold Your Hand' video.

Mark, I never realized you had 1.5" shoes on that bad boy. Even seeing it a MARF, I didn't see that as I was taking in all the detail in your "mural" paintjob. First I've seen the before pic too. Neat.

Thanks, John. And thanks, Jeff, for posting that close-up. I guess all the crazy paint makes it easy to miss some of the "finer details."

Aliens in my Rickenbacker. In the top pic I see you are finger-picking your "brain", or was that just a cool coincidence?

You wouldn't hear me complaining about that, especially not with your bass playing. You're a monster of a bassist!
The JETGLO finish name should be officially changed to JETGLO ROCKS! :-)

Too much bass is a matter of opinion - usually from non bassists! Love the Twlight-backer effect... and a hugh sound! +1 to what Joey said.

cheers dude! we've added a (competent) vocalist to the mix now, and refined things somewhat since those lousy takes were recorded.

lately i've been mixing the bass down a little due to prior harassment by the bandmates that things were too bass-heavy...hell, gonna happen to any player who mixes - they'll often put more emphasis on their instrument.

our stuff (recorded) sounds odd compared to live; the band is driven by myself and my rhythm guitarist, but it doesn't quite come across that way recorded.

Thanks for the props, guys! That means a lot coming from players like yourselves.

Yeah, John. Pickin' the ol' brain. Sometimes that's what it takes to shake the ideas loose!

Neil - congrats on the new singer. Hope things work out for you guys. Mixing is so subjective. I definitely benefit from mixing my own stuff in that I get the bass right where I want it, but I still try to mix for the song overall, not just the bass. However, I know I've always liked music with a good present bassline, hence my gravitation to bands like Yes & Rush when I was a kid, which got me interested in playing bass to begin with. There's a chicken vs the egg analogy in there somewhere.

Another aside, John - I don't mind aliens in my Rickenbacker; it's the Bass Gophers you have to watch out for:

That bass is just a cool-as-all-hell display of artwork, Mark.

Kudos on having the vision and then executing it so well.

I'd like to hear you play it someday.

That'd be cool to make it out Chicago way one of these days, Jeff. In the interim, I do have stuff posted on my Myspace link, although I hate sending people there because Myspace compresses the hell out of your MP3s and they all sound like ****. But you get the idea.

Bass is always loud in my mixes. That's the damn point. I don't play a Rickenbacker to be unheard and unknown.
