I was the only guy in town playing a 4005WB, however!

The black outfit looks cool with the JG 4005WB, Jeff.

Not that I'm any sort of fashion guru or anything!

wow, this has been a busy thread the last few days! my 2 cents....as far as i know, the fretboard on the 4002 jdog now owns is the original one. to me,that bass typified MY experience of 80's rickenbackers (comparatively a heavier/thicker feel to the neck AND body). most of what i read here prior to getting my cii prepared me for expecting a thick neck,(its actually wider but thin front to back) i have found the shape/feel of my cii to be preferable to both the '83 4002 AND a '93 v63 i purchased and re-sold. i have fairly long fingers, and actually cannot get into short scale or super thin neck basses that much, and conversely don't tend to like the fender p-bass c type necks or any fatter necked basses,as i have a pretty light touch (athritis is creepin' in...) as some of you have noted, the actual differences in neck dimensions can be pretty miniscule, but it's all about the feel-i think for me playing a variety of ricks and jazz basses over the years,i just have decided i prefer the feel of unbound necks, but i don't really have any problem playing those with binding....the last experience i had with that was a matsumoto 4001 copy from the 70's that had a really nice thin neck, that i would've bought had the owner not been under the impression he had a real 70's rickenbacker (someone had put on both rick trc and output jacks) ....if there were any to be found in memphis,i would love to see and play some new rick basses.......

The ones that get lost in the mix and/or sound like they're under a mountain full of pillows frustrate me and make me want to show someone the Ricken-light, but I don't automatically think that someone is a goof for playing/liking Fenders.
I don't judge them either, though I've been judged enough by some of THEM with their comments about playing a Rick!!
Guh, don't remind me.

I've owned MANY Alembic basses, but decided that due to my back the their weight, it was better to move on to something else easier on the old bones.
You're just getting decrepid aren't you, T!

And YES, I'm decrepid! It's not the age, but the mileage!

Kevin, that pic of you with it had to be before the weekend I picked it up because you played the FG V63 out that night we were there.

Sure hope you're taking it easy and healing up nicely!
