330 tuning

Hi,

Got a second hand 330 fireglo. Great deal, very well built, beautiful sound.

One thing is bothering me though, it seems that it's hard to keep the G String in tune after just a couple of hard bendings. Is this normal?

(P.S. I got it last night so I havent had a chance to take it to my tech or change the strings, still they are fairly new and intonation and action are good... previous owner said he had it set up not long ago.)

Do you use plain or wound G's?

Well it's gotta be plain, can't really bend a wound G!

I would change the strings and stretch them out good. Re-tune every time you do. If there are still tuning issues, we'll see from there.

People cringe watching me change strings because I stretch them out so hard.
I tend to be really heavy-handed when I play, so I have to.

Usually only new (unstretched) or old & crusty strings give me any trouble with tuning.

Yeah, just wail on it awhile. It might getting the cobwebs blown out! My 330 likes being played like you mean it- I can bend like crazy on that thing, no tuning troubles at all! These guitars are really stable, but mine definitely behaves better the more it's played.

I had the same problem with my Casino in my ska days. (sung a la Ren & Stimpy) "Memmmm....rieeeees...."

Yes, a string change should be the first order of business. You bought this 330 used, and really don't know how old the strings are that are on it.
