original colour?

Hello Everybody,

I have a question regarding the finish of my vintage Rickenbacker from 1967: as I am not sure whether it has in the past been refinished or not, I was wondering if Rickenbacker would be able (and willing) to let me know the original finish of the guitar when it left the company by providing them with the serial number? If so, would anyone of you know who at Rickenbacker I could contact? Thanks a lot,

RIC most likely would not have this information. Even if they do, they would not take the time to try and hunt it down. The easiest way to determine if a Rickenbacker has been refinished is to remove the the pickguard and/or the TRC. Inspection of the cavities behind these pieces of plastic should reveal overspray of the original finish.

well, it actually IS a jetglo from 1967, that's why I want to make sure. I already checked behind removables parts, and I didn't find any evidence for a refin, but of course as an amateur luthier, I cannot really tell...

Best way is to remove the pickups, and look behind those (in addition to the other cavities).

Get a flashlight out and really look at the cracks. The most you will find for '67 is some type of Fireglo. If it was Mapleglo, you'd never know.

Also, if it is original Jetglo, it would have the codes etc written inside the control cavity taped off before finish (right people? I'm fairly sure...).
