Re: Anniversary bass
Congrats on the new bass as well as your 10 year anniversary, Scott.
I played my (formerly your!) 4001C64S last night. The bass is still outstanding!
I hope your new Laredo is as good and becomes your new favorite.

Re: Anniversary bass
Thanks everyone. My wife is great....though she did remind me that 10 yrs is supposed to be diamonds. I got a Rick, she got a rock. It's all good.
The Laredo is scheduled to be delivered Monday! It's going to be pretty cold here so it's going to kill me to not open the case for the day acclimation. Pics to come next week!

Re: Anniversary bass
Congrats, that's amazing!!! You're a lucky man!
I'm lucky too... My wife's contributed to at least 2 different basses too! Isn't it wonderful to find someone who you want to spend the rest of your life with who actually cares about what you love too!
My 10 year anniversary is coming up next year. I know she'd love a new ring but I'm seriously thinking about cutting back on the cost of the bling and doing a long weekend away somewhere, perhaps across the pond and giving her something she'd like there. The good ones deserve to be shown that you appreciate them don't they!
Hmm... You've got me thinking... Maybe I should start dropping hints about what I'd like now so that she gets used to it... *smirk*

Re: Anniversary bass
Very nice. It's good that you two continue to appreciate each other.
With Megan, I'm quite lucky that she likes Ricks above other basses (the only other thing that competes for her attention is the Stingray), but she's REALLY picky about which Ricks I'm eyeing. When I took her to see that 4004Cii at Wildwood, she was like, "WHAT! No pickguard, no chrome... bluh. No, don't get that one." She really digs the "classic" look. But I really do appreciate her input... and just the fact that she's a Ric-head is nice.

Re: Anniversary bass
Well the bass was delivered yesterday, and all I can say is WOW on many levels. First of all, as usual, the fit/finish is flawless...gorgeous fireglo finish. Impressions and thoughts:
1. It's heavier than I thought it would be...well balanced though.
2. It's freakin' beefy!!! My old '74s neck felt like a pencil compared to this. My other bass is a Peavey Foundation (laugh if you want...they're great basses), and it's a jazz type profile so, I'm used to a thin neck. I also have a Dark Starred Peavey T-45 which is a thinner neck. The 4004 neck is taking some time to get used to but, it's growing on me.
3. Replaced the "schaller"? stock strap locks with the Dunlops I use.
4. Some strange contours on this bass...especially at the bottom, cool though.
5. Now plugged in: This bass growls from hell
. The humbuckers are DEAD QUIET! I'm not used to that. All of my basses up to now have been single-coil. Bridge pickup soloed captured the Red Barchetta 4003 tone nicely. Wide array of tones, but pure Rickenbacker.
I'll be adding some pics this weekend after I give her the Scratch-X / Zymol treatment....running out of Scratch-X pretty quickly though....since the old formula isn't available anymore, I need a replacement
Overall, extremely happy with her. Oh yeah, the fingerboard is finished, unlike the ones on the cii's that I've heard are unfinished lately. One more weird/odd thing....which might explain why my fingerboard isn't unfinished. This bass is "brand new." I got the full warranty, no problem. It's pristine.....BUT the serial number and warranty paperwork says it was manufactured in August '08.
Now, I haven't talked to Gary at NCM yet but...I would think that RIC would be shipping their instruments out to dealers as soon as they were completed. Is this normal to wait a year to ship? I'm completely happy with the bass...just confused. He hasn't had this bass in stock for THAT long.

Re: Anniversary bass
Actually Scott, I really like the DR coated strings, though the stock strings do sound good.
Re: Anniversary bass
Congrats, Scott, for both the bass and the great wife!

Re: Anniversary bass
well that answered my question about "new" laredo availability, scott! when i first got my cii,i thought the neck seemed a bit "thick",(compared to my 4000 and jazz bass necks) ,but after some time,i really grew to love the feel of it. i have dr sunbeams on mine (40-100 gauge),which seem to compliment the pickups nicely.
