I saw these two comments posted (by different people) on a Rics head-count thread over on the Ric company forum:
-- Am I single because I have 8 Rics, or do I have 8 Rics because I'm single???
-- I have about 25 other guitars and the same number of amps or so. Yes, she thinks I am nuts (but guitars are cheaper than affairs and safer than motorcycles.)
I thought perhaps these humorous and inspirational viewpoints might generate a few RRF-ers to get philosophical about their Ric collecting and the balancing act with the significant others in their lives .....
We are to this point - I want, I use my money, I buy. She thinks I have more than enough but says nothing. I could have worse "vices". Unfortunately she knows I'm too old for that stuff.
I have but one Rick. Am lusting after two, possibly three others. As long as the bills are paid, and I've saved enough to pay cash, she doesn't say anything. But she also doesn't know that I've been lusting after a Rick lap steel, a 4003 bass, and oh what the heck, may as well get a 360 FG six string to go with the 12, right?

A Rickenbacker guitar is like a woman--beautiful curves, sweet sounding, and comforting to hold. Oh, my! Just thought of something! Every time I play my 330/12 mapleglo, I'm committing adultery!
FIrst wife, (long forgotten!)......NO guitars at all!
Second wife.....5 Ricks, 2 Epi####es, 1 Hof##r, Vox amp, a str#t or 2 in there somewhere!
Looks like i got it right second time around.

About 10 years ago I dated a great girl who even talked about getting a Rick for my birthday. I broke up with her, though, because I am the STUPIDEST PERSON IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE. Regular facebook and google searches continue to yield no results. Thankfully for all the ladies out there, I am still single.
First wife - she loved the way I played when we met. She fell in love with the first Rick I bought as much as I did. She won't let me stop playing and encourages my acquisition of more Ricks, and encourages me attending confluences. She is as much involved in building a home studio as I am. She does not play any instrument herself. Her thing is sewing, embroidery and knitting. Needless to say, when she started looking at very expensive embroidery machines that can sew a thousand ways and courses to learn how to use these very complex machines, she has my full support.
Looks like I got very lucky the first time around. Think I'll keep her, and my Ricks.
