Re: Ernie Ball 12 String slinkys
I use Ernie Balls on my 6-string electrics most of the time. Never tried them on the 12...

I know I'm in the minority, but I think Ernie Balls sound better and play better on a 12 than any of the boutique strings. For me, the diminished treble of flats is at odds with what I want a 12 string to do; treble cannon.
Re: Ernie Ball 12 String slinkys
Hi, long time since I've posted but it's time to re-string my 360/12V64 again. I normally use factory Rickenbacker compressed round wounds, but the Ernie Ball Super slinkys seem to be an alternative ( both economically and playability compared to
T-I s ).
Paul A...have you had any problems with breaking strings, especially those light guage E .08s ?
Thanks,

Haven't broken one yet, IIRC, either on my Rick 12 or Vox XII. I think having the strings in pairs might lessen the punishment the individual strings might otherwise take from pick attack. The string action is also quite low to the neck.
Re: Ernie Ball 12 String slinkys
Thanks Paul,
I'll give it a try, $10 is not all that expensive compared to the T.I. set. Better action is an added benefit!
I don't do a lot of string bending on my 360/12V64, and my pick is very lightly used, so it may work out quite nice !
Cheers,
Gary

I've been using the EB 12 lights for over a year, now, albeit not on my 360/12. I play them on an Eastwood Classic 12, and they sound great, last well, and seem to pretty easy on the neck. I'll try a set on the Ric and see how it goes. Overall, I recommend them highly.

I think I just encountered the same problem with the TI flats. They sound kinda dull.customxke wrote:I know I'm in the minority, but I think Ernie Balls sound better and play better on a 12 than any of the boutique strings. I just replaced some Rick strings with them, and raised the action a little bit to deal with some fret buzzing, and now I find the guitar hard to play and rather uninteresting to the ear.
I may have to go back to the Ricks. I thought the slight tension increase of the TIs would help with a problem I was having -- namely, that the A strings so often sounded out of tune when fretted. It seemed I was pushing down too hard and bending the string out of tune. Now I've come to believe that actually the string was buzzing on the frets and introducing dissonant harmonics that gave that impression. The problem did seem to appear only when the guitar was plugged in.
I HATE the though of restringing the 12 -- my fingers, twice impaled on string ends coming free of the tuners, have mostly healed, but my psyche is still wounded. And yet, I fear I have no choice.
