Feel A Whole Lot Better
Feel A Whole Lot Better
Does anyone have, or know of, a good tab for the solo in this song? I've been doing it at gigs for a while now, and I can get a similar sound, but I'd like to do better.
Many thanks, Murph.

Tom, I have one I got from the 'Net ... I'll have to see whether it's reasonably correct. I don't think I've tabbed one of my own.

It is well to remember that Roger overdubbed a second lead on that classic break. So, you'll have to make it "jingle-jangle" as much as you can with one guitar

It's pretty simple, really. It's all played on the E & B strings, with a hit or two of the pick on the G string. If you can wait until tomorrow, I can tab out a reasonable facsimile then. It's a little late to do that tonight.

Thanks Karl. That's basically what I've been doing, using a D major figure at the A and E positions. It sounds pretty good with some delay, and at least, gets the idea of what RM did.

Don't forget your compressor.
Re: Feel A Whole Lot Better
It looks like you guys have this pretty well sorted out. "Feel A Whole Lot Better" is one of those rock guitar solos that's easier to play than it is to tab out. Anyhow, thanks to fellow forumite Christian Bryan here's a video that may help. You can see the first few bars of the solo Roger's playing beginning about 1:03.

Hey, Tom:
If you can, you should tape your solo and play it for us!!!!!!!!

Hey Jim or Christian:
I don't believe that I've seen this Byrds' version before. Is it still on YOU TUBE???

Yes, it is. Christian posted it a long time ago. I'm fairly certain that it's lip synched, however. Nevertheless, you can get an idea of how the solo is played by watching. At least Roger had the idea to mime it just about the way it was recorded on the LP.kvalois wrote:Hey Jim or Christian:

Here's a better view of the solo. David Whitt is a forum member. And he nails it.

I guess we should let it end there; however, here's the shortest (and fastest) version available - and a good one too!

Gene is trying so hard to keep up with the tempo... Chris has obviously learned his instrument, by this time he's a fantastic bass player!

They must have been given a spot exatly two minutes long.

Re: Feel A Whole Lot Better
Keep up, or slow down the tempo? I never could decide. But yeah, they sure do play that one at warp speed. Nice in any case that we have a live Byrds rendition of Feel A Whole Lot Better than a lipsynched version.rick36 wrote:Gene is trying so hard to keep up with the tempo...
JimK who still thinks that this is one of the Byrds' best numbers penned by a Byrd.
