Thomastik Roundwounds

Post by walrus »

I have been using TI Flats on my 4001 that has a toaster and RI Horseshoe pickup and love the sound. I am purchasing a new 4003 and was thinking of trying TI Rounds on it. I have a tendency to slide up to notes, which isn't an issue with flats, but rounds tend to squeak too much. Of course, I may need to adjust my technique when using the rounds but a little bit of reduction in the squeak department wouldn't hurt.

According to their website, the TI rounds outerwrap is a small diameter nickel alloy winding which ads slightly more bite to the upright style tone without the typical roundwound side effects of excessive string squeak and premature fret wear.

Has anyone tried these or have other recommendations? I think that what I am looking for is a deep warm sound with a bit more growl or bite than the flats.

I use TI JRs on some of my basses; they have a much smoother feel than most rounds and are squeak free, at least they are to me. They are also long lasting.

Those were the TI FLATS on my FL Andy, these are TI ROUNDS, but you DID play them on that Old Peavey T40 I brought along for giggles.
