Discolored 355/12JL scratch plate

Post by ron_finlay »

I've just obtained a 355/12JL which is in great condition, apart from discoloration of the scratch plate, which has yellowed.
Any suggestions?

The signature plate, or the other one?

If it is the signature plate, the ones I have seen from that era all seem to go yellow.

I doubt there's much if anything you could do.

Really probably nothing you can do without risking damage to the plate. Were it mine, I'd simply replace it with a new plain white one, and preserve the signature plate for collector's purposes.

Congrats on your guitar BTW!!

Attacking the yellowed plate with compound to attempt to polish out the yellow, would n doubt do more harm than good.

Have you tried Pepsodent? (JOKE)

Anyway, do what Bill suggests.
