Long time no post!! Longish post ahead! I dont know if any of you remember me or not. I joined here a year ago or close to it and was asking around about what Ric would be right for me. I knew next to nothing about them but kept reading people who loved them go on and on .. and yea people who didnt click with them go on and on.. :p but that didnt stop me. I knew Id have to get just the right year to better my chances of getting one within my personal tastes on neck specs. I stayed for a bit, made a friend, and was looking around to see what was for sale. I almost pulled the trigger on one Ric here that was for sale but somehow could never commit to it.
Well RL dragged me off and the GAS for a Ric simmered down though never totally left. I didnt actively look for one but kept my eye out on ones for sale on the net. I knew /about/ what year I wanted, I knew it had to be a Jetglo and it had to be a 4003. Well the friend I made here I kept in touch with. We had done some trading on bass stuffis and I remember one night I asked him (in email) out of the blue what he had to trade... for some reason he put on the list a Ric he had just gotten. I asked to see a picture.. he send me a picture and it was love at first sight. I had found /my/ ric. I can't explain it but there it was... it was the one I had been waiting for. I asked about the neck first off. My friend knew the types of necks I like as he now owned one of my old basses. The neck was right in my range and the negotiating began. It took me a few weeks (to say the least) and one of my other basses, to get this baby home. And sadly I cant post the pictures I have up on line right now they are too big
Anyway I got a 1981 4003 in Jetglo with its OHSC and all I can say is:I LOVE THIS BASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The neck is thin, so friendly. I dont know how else to put it. Its like the neck isnt even there when Im playing it. I love how it sounds, I love how it balances. I love the body on it. The binding that IVe read bothers some people doesnt bother me in the slightest!! My lawsuit les paul has sharp edged binding and it never bothered me. That baby broke me in on binding (I mean my les pauls binding is brutal) and I swear I dont even feel the binding on my baby here.
This Ric is to die for. Now its not perfect, it has mojo, and its had a boo boo in the past that was very pro repaired. It needs a little TLC in the pup department and a wee bit of cosmetics but to me its the most beautiful ric in the world. ^_^ *hugs her Ric*
Its funny, when I first joined here I was looking at some newer Ric that didnt come with a pickguard, a CS? or something like that. I thought that was the one I wanted. No, all of you really set me straight on that... and what I got couldnt fit any better had it been custom made just for me!
