"rimshot" ok mark, that was a good one,and yeah i don't like EVERYTHING phil ever did.

no problemo, everybuddy likes music their own special way,i just happen to love hearing phil play drums. bill bruford AND alan white,too......

jeffrey-i goofed on the year,i first saw them in january 1974, at the drury lane theater in london. it was the only concert i saw while pete gabriel was still in the band.

I only saw them at various times in Cleveland, from their first time here through WAW; I saw every show they did here, even both nights of TOTL, which was a real treat to see two (Phil & Bill) average  drummers play together, especially, the double drum solos. :D

While I must admit that I am not a big Genisis fan since after A Trick of the Tail... I do listen to Phil's more current stuff just for the drumming. Even in the more popish modern stuff his 'skin whacking' is still leaps above most of what is out there.

Yeah, Kenny, I liked The Move, too...I even liked ELO for the first couple of albums (before the high-frustose-corn-syrup content got too thick). But Bevans' drumming...yipes:

That tune's supposed to have a Motownish, '...Through The Grapvine' mid-tempo chugging kind of feel, but Bevans...well, let's just be kind and say he's not exactly 'in the pocket'. Maybe I was a bit harsh, but I was trying to come up with a drummer at the opposite end of the spectrum from Collins when it comes to chops and imagination. I mean, I could have said Karen Carpenter...but think of the hate mail I would've gotten then.

Here's The Move doing one of their biggest hits (I ran out and bought the '45' when it came out)...great song, nice vocal harmonies (and Roy looking like Capt. Beefheart's little brother!)...but what is Bev doing back there? Playing with mallets, for some inexplicable reason, and his technique reminds me of a guitar player sitting behind a kit and saying 'this looks easy...let me give it a go!' Be as objective as you can, and pay special attention to his 'fills' (for lack of a better term):

So.....once again, check out Collins' fills on "In The Air Tonight"...sorry, man: it's "Bev Bevans with two broken arms"...
I didn't get where I am today by being on time...

Sorry Dane, I don't see a thing wrong with what Bev's doing on either clip. Agree to disagree?

I also like Phil's style, for the record.
