I bet a 4004 with HB1s would sound great.

My guess is he meant 4003. I know an HB1 in the bridge sounds monster - Dane's 8-string CS bass had an HB1 in the bridge when I saw it at the 75th and the sound was huge and very authoritative. I also believe someone here has tried an HB1 in the neck of a 4003 too.

I have an HB-1 in the neck of my 4001 and it is tapped via the unused leg of the tone pot....
Tapped the HB-1 has the grit of an old HI-gain with the balance of a Toaster (which means you can bend the strings without a volume change)
In this bass, I prefered it more than the sound of the toaster..

Right. I kinda' meant a 4003S/5, but a 4003 in general. I need to spellcheck more often.

Definitely not sarcasm. I like 4004s...

I like the HB’s in my 4004L8 – they have chutzpah! So much so I tried one in my beloved ’74 4001 (neck pickup)…. I’m really digging the sound. ROS’ed the 4001(HB1) at a gig a month ago – sounded really, really good!!!
