I should probably say here that I have no "inside information" on this.
And, boy, would I love to be wrong!

Ok basically it's a pre-74-position-toastered-4001 with horseshoe ... (edited : yes and no shedua strip)teeder wrote:It would be the "Deluxe" version as opposed to the "S" style of the V63 and C64. Checker binding, full-width crushed pearl inlays would be the biggest differences.
Here's a real '68 for reference.
Thanks for the shout-out, JB; I'm working on one of these right now for a customer in the EU! Pics when it's done...sloop_john_b wrote:Well, it only makes sense. No crushed pearl coming out of Santa Ana, we've known this for a while (though I love the current full width inlays). And if you can't get the CP, is the rest of it even really worth doing?
There are several guys here (Paul, Larry) and elsewhere who would love to make your bass a v68. You won't regret it!
So 1974 / 1979 Ricks had shorter headstock compared to before and after that era ?cassius987 wrote:shorter headstock

Yes sir! I think the differences were more evident in the shape and in the laminations of the headstock than in its length, but the classic 60's 4001 headstock was around 3/8 to 1/2 inch longer than the late 70's 4001 headstock.cangaroo wrote:So 1974 / 1979 Ricks had shorter headstock compared to before and after that era ?cassius987 wrote:shorter headstock
