Re: Post of picture of you PLAYING your ric
er, not trying to rock the boat, but when have Ric players been overly PC?
i'm not a fan of pointless profanity, both online and in person, but sometimes things need to be highlighted. asterisks work, they allow the reader to form their "own" word that suits the situation for them.
life needs to be thought of as a laugh-riot of an adventure, not taken too seriously...

Re: Post of picture of you PLAYING your ric
Funny - I don't recall there being a No Asterisk Policy when I signed up!
But seriously, I know that the bigger points here are courtesy to the other forum members vs freedom of speech. Just my two cents for what it's worth - I do think it's kind of daunting to have your words automatically censored as you write. It's like a built-in prevention mechanism that precedes one's ability to practice appropriate etiquette out of choice. I don't think there should be a safeguard that automatically changes the F-bomb into the ambiguous ****. I think everyone should be able to say what they will, and if one chooses to ignore the rules, then they encounter the consequences as a result, whether that be a friendly reminder by a mod, or getting kicked off if they prove themselves as being belligerent to the point that an ousting is necessary.
Also, the way words are edited using the "asterisk system" is really ineffectual in truly safeguarding from what some may consider to be offensive content. In my previous email, I referred to gratuitous sexual gratification, psychological abuse, and murder, yet all content made it through "the system" without hindrance. However, if someone were to say "This guitar I got off eBay sounds like carp!" (carp misspelled intentionally in this case) that gets auto-censored, even though it's a statement pretty safe from being deemed offensive.
Auto-censorship could pan out to have an effect similar to road rage - wherein the car acts as the buffer between good judgment & appropriate behavior vs acting like a childish lunatic. (That's an alarmist perspective, of course, but you can see my point.) In an ideal forum environment, I think we should be able to express ourselves with 100% free reign over our choice of words, and reap the benefits and consequences that follow. This kind of arena sort of forces one to be more conscious of their behavior, much like in the real world where people interact face-to-face.

I think it's best we get back to our regularly scheduled, "Post of picture of you PLAYING your ric" thread.

Re: Post of picture of you PLAYING your ric
Okay Joey.

That's me on my very first gig with my very first Ric--which I just recently gave a nice setup after it got banged up a little by UPS. No, I'm not high! That's just a face I make when I'm playing. I tend to look angry or sad to a lot of people, when in fact I'm just thinking about something or absorbed in an activity--like listening to other band members.
After that show, one of the most talented bassists I know (he wields a 'Ray 5-er) came up to me and said, "You guys are officially the best band in town." I was grinning ear to ear. Nobody could deny how good that bass sounded, either.

Due to that I think there should be an actual thread to discuss the points brought up thusfar.rickenbrother wrote:I think it's best we get back to our regularly scheduled, "Post of picture of you PLAYING your ric" thread.

Great shot Josh glad to see you guys rock.
Re: Post of picture of you PLAYING your ric
Josh - looking like you are having fun!!! Great shot!
Not sure that this was necessary – I just felt I needed to do it.
Maybe as Nate said a sep thread....
sorry about the late post here - now that I am re-employed (outside of the home) my timely attention to the forum leaves alot to be desired - I just wanted to comment on Mark's riposte. I do agree totally with what he said. Posting via the internet seems to make people bolder, stupider and more careless all at the same time. Auto sanitization is just too nasty and can be side stepped with all too much ease (shock jocks have done this for years). The art of personal responsibility really needs to be brought back into vogue. A little reminder is a far more friendly way to reign in those who may slide of the path occasionally (and this is a very friendly forum). I guess for those who don’t like it, well they could start their own Forum????walker wrote:Funny - I don't recall there being a No Asterisk Policy when I signed up!...

Thanks for the add'l insight, Tom. It touches on the concept of tangents being a thing of natural conversation, whether spoken or written. I wouldn't think that a separate thread would be necessary, but that's not for me to decide.

And since experience is the best way to learn, THAT'S when the new forum owner finds out exactly why Peter wants the forum rules followed the way he does. Remember, you guys don't know your entire audience and even some of the one you think you do know, you don't really know well enough.ram wrote:I guess for those who don’t like it, well they could start their own Forum????
Again, let's get back to the the original topic!

Hey Joey, congrats on your team's victory!
Billy, great looking shot! The group pic would have looked better with a 4001/3 in there but I guess 50% of stringed instruments Ric can't be all bad
